Jamaica Government Launches Insurance Plan for Entertainers and Creatives

More than 4,400 of Jamaica’s entertainers and creatives have been given access to life insurance. This, following the official launch of the Jamaica Entertainers and Creatives Insurance Plan (JECIP).

The contract signing for the new insurance plan was held on Tuesday (November 12) at the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport in Kingston. The initiative, which was spearheaded by Portfolio Minister, Hon. Olivia Grange, is available to all entertainers and creatives who are listed on the National Registry of Entertainment and Creative Industries Practitioners (E-Registry).

Guardian Life Insurance Group will be administering the plan, which covers registered persons, aged six to 75, with the option to extend to age 99. The coverage is free for all registered entertainers and creatives, which means no monthly contributions are required.

Farmer Nappy Is “Thankful”

With well over 30 years in the soca music industry and several hit songs, Trinidadian recording artist Farmer Nappy is “Thankful.” He said as much on his latest release with the same name.

Dancehall Artist Teflon Says He Has “Crack The Code”

When he came on the scene in 2004, Teflon captivated reggae-dancehall fans with his breakout hits “Bless Me Jah” and “Holding Onto Jah Jah Love.” Both songs flooded the airwaves so much so that he became highly sought-after by some of the industry’s biggest producers, who all wanted to have the St. Mary native record on their rhythms. Not only was Teflon getting a lot of radio rotation at the time, but he was also dominating stages at home and abroad.

Surprisingly, after what was clearly years of a consistent upward surge, Teflon‘s career seemingly leveled off, leaving many to speculate about what was happening with him behind the scenes. What we all found out later is that the Young King was busy learning the business so that he could achieve success on his terms.

Onlookers got a glimpse of that success during the COVID-19 pandemic. When we were all forced to slow down and, in some cases, stop, that is when we noticed that Teflon was trending almost every week with either a new song, music video, mixtape, or album. His positive movements continued after the pandemic, and now he is always touring, and most, if not all of his recent releases are on heavy rotation worldwide.

The master lyricist summed up his current situation on the dancehall record “Crack theCode.” The song was published at the end of October and, as such, is now available on all streaming platforms.
