Reggae Praise

After launching Reggae Month with a church service at the end of January, the organizers will present a major gospel concert, called Reggae Praise, as the final show in their Reggae Wednesdays series.

That said, on Wednesday, February 28th, JaRIA (Jamaica Reggae Industry Association) will host the spirit-filled show at Festival Marketplace on the Waterfront in Kingston. This free event will have live performances by Levy’s Heritage, Sista Patt, Johnmark Wiggan, Humble, Perpetual Praise, Audia Spencer-Brown, and Verlando Small.

Jamaica’s Governor-General Announces 24-hour Entertainment Zone

During his 2024/2025 Throne Speech in the the House of Representatives on Thursday, February 15, Jamaica’s Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Honorable Sir Patrick Allen made the following statement.

To further enhance the country’s excellence in entertainment, the Portmore-based JamWorld Entertainment Complex is being renovated for the facility to be the first 24-hour Entertainment Zone, to address the need for designated entertainment areas.

Jah Vinci Confirmed For Slaughter Tone’s 3rd Memorial

On Saturday, February 24th, the Slaughta Tone Foundation will present the third annual memorial for popular business man/selector, Slaughter Tone. The event will be held at Club Silk of Candler – 2930 Ember Drive – in Decatur, Georgia, starting at 10:00 PM local time.

Needless to say several high-ranking deejays will be on hand to honor their former colleague: Tony Matterhorn, Dun Rich Muzic, Navis Boom, Bugsy Bam Bam, and DJ Fiyah Feelings. Additionally, there will be a live set by international dancehall artist Jah Vinci.

Sharon Marley Links With Big Youth For “Steppah”

Because we’ve become so accustomed to hearing music from the Marley brothers, it is always refreshing when we get songs from one of the sisters; infrequent as it may be.

A few days ago, Sharon Marley blessed us with an unusual but beautiful lovers-rock tune called Steppah. Done in collaboration with the living legend Big Youth, the timely record went live on all streaming platforms just before valentine’s day, with the official video dropping approximately seventy-two hours later.

Empress Black Omolo Confirmed For Aarhus’ Bob Marley Celebration

Jam Link International, the organization that’s responsible for Aarhus’ Annual Bob Marley Celebration, has announced the full lineup for the 2024 staging. The event, which will take place on February 24th at Volume Village – Thomas Koppels Gade 201 – in Aarhus, Denmark, will deliver a mix of live music, sound-system juggling, and a digital exhibition centered on reggae music.

This year’s main headliner is Kenyan reggae artist Empress Black Omolo, who is now based in Holland (Netherlands). Omolo officially entered the music scene in 2013, which is when she shared her first recording, Love Your Life. Since then, she has toured all over Europe and has done shows in Jamaica, Brazil, and other regions around the globe, thus cementing her name on the world stage. 

In addition to Empress Black Omolo, the celebration will also feature Aarhus’ local reggae ensemble, One Love Marley Band; selectors DJ Henning, Booyaka Sound, and Denali Crew; as well as a cultural presentation by Danish writer Henrik Baek.

Dru Hill, Musiq Soulchild & Blackstreet For “R&B Block Party” In Amsterdam

Three rhythm-and-blues juggernaut – Dru Hill, Musiq Soulchild and Blackstreet – will headline the R&B Block Party, scheduled for Wednesday, March 27th, at the AFAS Live concert hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

This event’s objective is to celebrate classic R&B and soul hits from the 90s and early 2000s. That said, it will be hosted by top-tier R&B selectors DJ Franck, DJ TLM, and Deejay Kid. For additional information and links to tickets visit rnbblockparty-dot-nl.

Experience Scarface Behind The Desk

Hip-hop legend Scarface will be doing a twenty-five city U.S. tour commencing on March 10th in Miami, Florida, and ending on April 14 in Charlotte, North Carolina. This short stint, dubbed Behind The Desk Experience, was inspired by Scarface‘s impressive performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series.
