History will be created in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 27th, when the sounds of reggae music permeates the Franklin Field stadium for the first time in the 128 year history of the Penn Relay Carnival.

Reggae singer Christopher Martin – a Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) ambassador – will perform at the ‘TJB30 Pop Up Vibes’ at 6pm, immediately following the running of the last relay.

The annual Penn Relay Carnival, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, has long been a prominent exhibition for Jamaican high-school teams that thrive against a rich backdrop of supporters from all across the diaspora. The opportunity for reggae to be featured inside the stadium was realized through a collaborative effort with the University of Pennsylvania, the hosts of the Penn Relays, Team Jamaica Bickle, and its stakeholders.

“Sweet reggae music, can’t refuse it.” Those are words spoken by recording artist Tommie Tei at the beginning of his tune, Dynamite. The song, which was first shared as a stand alone single last summer, is now featured on the recently released rhythm-driven compilation with the same name. 

Produced by British music creative Ede Conscious, Tommie Tei‘s Dynamite has been getting great reviews, so much so that it became necessary to do a video. As such, the official music video was shot, edited, and uploaded to Tommie Tei‘s YouTube channel last month. 

When asked what inspired the captivating reggae song, Tommie Tei said the following: so Ede Conscious reach out to me and say Tommie Tei I have a project and I would like you to be on it, what do you think? And I said to him ye man no problem, willing fi work. And I said send me the beat, and den him send me the beat, and from me hear the beat is just one thing come to me mind is like it a give me a vibe weh just give me a different kind a energy, a vibe weh from me hear it me a say no man da riddim ya bad. You know. By saying that to myself, da riddim ya bad, is like the concept just come to me, and from the concept then me start pree the melody, and then the melody come, and then the lyrics just start flow after. 

So ye man is just about Ede Conscious just reach out and yu know send me the riddim and from me hear the riddim da vibe ya just hit, just lick me and me just say no man me affi work pan this me affi find something fi dis. And me couldn’t think of nothing else no other melody no other concept. And yu know a just it that, so Dynamite! ye man.

May.B Unity Production presents Unity Reggae Live Show on April 30th at Le Kilowatt – 18 rue des fusilles – in Vitry-sur-Seine, France. It will star veteran reggae artists Chezidek and Warrior King from Jamaica, with a premier performance by Tallojah.

Mikey, the indisputable General of reggae music, has partnered with Mountain Peak Records for his latest single. Titled Ain’t No Sunshine, the song is his rendition of Bill Withers‘ 1971 megahit with the same name. Mikey General‘s Ain’t No Sunshine was released on April 8th, 2024, and it serves as the introductory track to his forthcoming studio album. 

The song surprised a lot of his fans and supporters because they’ve gotten accustomed to the Rastafarian 1) penning and performing his own songs, and 2) singing about social issues and spirituality. That said, Mikey’s long-time friend and owner of Mountain Peak Records, Anthony Cargill, has been urging him to venture outside the box for some time, and now that he has done it, the move is paying off. Ain’t No Sunshine is being received with delight and enjoyment by both lovers of reggae and lovers of soul.
