Music Review: Bomma Ft. Davii “Stronger”

It is clear that Canada-based reggae-dancehall artist Bomma has been through a lot. This conclusion was reached after listening to his latest single, Stronger, a rap-fused reggae tune done with his musical brother and friend Davii.

On the record, Bomma uses a timeless proverbial phrase, namely: “The pain the pressure makes me stronger,” to set the theme of the song. He then goes on to make several declarations, all of which seems to be rooted in his faith in both himself as a man, and the God that he serves.

Stronger is what Jamaicans commonly refer to as a ‘reality tune.’ This is the kind of record you play when you’re either going through, or have survived real life challenges. Davii, who added only a couple of lines, stayed in the same lane as Bomma. He kept it spiritual and hopeful.

Released on April 19, 2024, Stronger was produced by Simon Malik aka Dubai, who initially reached out to Bomma asking him to voice on the rhythm. Bomma then invited Davii to join him. Stronger can be streamed and/or downloaded from all music platforms.

Curtela Lewis’ Story

Curtela Lewis was born on the 19th of January, 2004. She hails from the Nabacalis community on the East Coast of Demerara (Guyana). With a passion for singing all her life, she started performing at schools, community concerts, and various churches at the early age of 5.

Driven by her faith in God and the belief that with God all things are possible, Curtela has accomplished a lot. At nine years old she was the winner of a music competition sponsored by Minister Farrakhan. That victory led to many more concerts and church events, and further propelled her into the limelight. Under the tutelage of her father, Curtis Lewis, who is a member of the Guyanese gospel group Dynamic Force, Curtela honed her skills to perfection.

Her hard work resulted in her achieving the award for ‘Best Talent’ in the Miss Guyana Teen Pageant. She was also awarded for best performance, vocalist, and presentation at the ACDA’s Emancipation Festival Concert. Additionally, due to her consistency in delivering the most exceptional performances, Curtela Lewis became the winner of the Guyana Talent Search Competition. Last year (2023), she participated in another talent competition. Hosted by the Enigma Entertainment Group, this contest, as with others, saw young Curtela beating all the other contestants by a substantial margin. Needless to say, she is featured regularly in Guyana’s entertainment news (traditional and social).

Curtela Lewis is now working on her album, Rise Above it. Until its release, her fans and supporters can enjoy the single Confess which is out now on all music platforms.
