This year, the 2023 KCRW Festival is shaking things up a bit by starting with Reggae Night XXI. The legendary party enters its third decade on Sunday, July 23rd with sets from Beres Hammond, Steel Pulse, and Third World.
The event will take place at the Hollywood Bowl, which is located at 2301 N Highland Avenue, in Los Angeles, California; and this season’s edition is being presented in partnership with the LA Phil.
International recording artist Gyptian will be performing live at the forthcoming Reggae Substance party at the Compound – 1 Linden Blvd. Unit 190 – in Queens, New York, on Friday, July 14th. Bascom X is also booked for the show, and both men will be supported by Bass Odyssey and Kosmik Movements.
Organizers of the 2023 Boston Jerk Celebration – happening on Sunday, July 9th at Boston Beach in Portland Jamaica – have added two dancehall giants to their lineup. The king of the dancehall, Beenie Man, and the old gangalee, Louie Culture, are now confirmed for the show.
The men will join the musical group L.U.S.T. (Lukie D, Thriller U, Singing Melody & Tony Curtis), gospel singer Kukudoo, and Jamaica’s #1 award winning show band Fab 5. This is a family-friendly event that will start at 9am. Tickets at the gate are going for $3,000 JMD for adults and $1,000 for children.
Maxine Greaves and Gmax Enterprise will host Pure Whiteout Indoor On The Runway – an all inclusive all white affair – on Sunday, July 9th at the Greentree Country Club in New Rochelle, New York.
Entertainment and music will be provided by Road International and DJ Bandit, with a special performance by Anthony Cruz. In addition to his countless hits, Cruz is also expected to do songs from his recently released album, Under the Covers.
Fantan Mojah‘s highly anticipated single, Jah Movement, is now available on all streaming platforms. It went live on Friday, June 23rd via Big Feet Records, and was accompanied by its official lyric video.
Because the term ‘highly anticipated’ is often batted about even when speaking of things that are unpropitious, it must be known that there has been a real expectation for Jah Movement ever since snippets of it leaked approximately two weeks ago. The general feedback from everyone who’ve heard the record is that it’s as strong as, or even stronger than Fantan‘s biggest song to date, Rasta Got Soul.
Although Fantan Mojah sang his heart out and delivered an exceptional performance, credit must also go to Josh Harris, the executive producer and composer. As is the case with other releases from Big Feet Records, Josh played both bass and Keyboards, with Santa Davis on drums. It was then mixed by Tommi Tikkenen, before being mastered at Anchor Studios in Kingston.
Jah Movement is an inspirational, uplifting, feel-good reggae tune that should be on the playlist of every reggae lover. It can be downloaded from iTunes, Amazon, and all other digital music stores.
The Málaga Reggae Salute Festival is set for July 22nd at the Autocine Málaga CesurFP – Ctra. de la Azucarera Intelhorce – in Málaga, Spain. Presented by Roots & Vibes Agency, the event is one of the premiere reggae shows in the region.
This year’s staging will have performances by Jah Mason, Inner Circle, The Wailers, Turbulence, Kenyatta Hill, Al Campbell, Anthony Johnson, Carl Dawkins and others. Click here for tickets.
On Saturday, July 22nd, four kings will perform at St. Johns Hall in Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad, to commemorate the 131st earthstrong of Emperor King Selassie I. Everton Blender, AJ Brown, Roger Robin and Jah Melody are all on the lineup, and will be joined by several selectors.
