Exco Levi Confirmed For Aarhus Reggae Fest 2024

Wayne Ford Levy, more popularly known as Exco Levi, will be bringing his spirit-filled music to the Aarhus Reggae Festival stage on September 28, 2024.

Exco Levi is a Jamaica-born Canada-based reggae artist who has won 5 Juno Awards since the start of his career in the mid 2000’s. The Junos are presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to recognize outstanding achievements in Canada’s music industry. In other words, this is Canada’s equivalent to the internationally recognized Grammy Awards held in the United States of America. The preceding statement should put in context the stature of Exco Levi, especially within the Canadian musical landscape.

Although the lineup is not yet finalized, the organizers of the 2024 Aarhus Reggae Festival have confirmed that Exco Levi is among the performers. And as this is the first presentation since the pandemic, the festivities will be held at Volume Village (Thomas Koppels Gade 201) in Aarhus, Denmark.

The link to purchase discounted early bird tickets is now live on the venue’s website.

Demitsedek’s “Masked Confusion” EP Release Delayed

Initially scheduled for release on Friday, June 7th, Jamaica-born, Toronto-raised recording artist Demitsedek has had to delay sharing his highly anticipated EP, Masked Confusion. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen challenges, the reggae-fused hip-hop project will now be pushed back to later in the summer. A new date has not been given.

While we await the publishing of the record, Demitsedek would like his fans and supporters to check out the lyric video for the track, Story of Selassie, one of five songs that will be featured on Masked Confusion. It was just uploaded to his newly created YouTube channel.

Story of Selassie was inspired, in part, by the time Demitsedek spent in Tanzania. He lived in the East African country for approximately one year. While there, he was committed to learning as much as possible about Ethiopia and its famed former Emperor Haile Selassie. That experience so impacted him that he subsequently changed his name from Tha Vor to the moniker he now uses, Demitsedek.

Music Review: Capleton “Over & Done”

Known in part for his aggressive DJ style, it is not often that we hear veteran dancehall artist Capleton singing. However, on his recently released single, Over & Done, that’s exactly what he did in the chorus.

Over & Done was shared on June 7th, 2024 via Deki Records. Everything about this dancehall tune stands out and has an inexplicable energy. From the artwork, which has a book panned to the left with Capleton‘s name and the song title on its cover, with a WhatsApp message in the background, to the track itself.

What’s more, Over & Done is a love song. This is another rarity for the Rastafarian deejay whose music usually delves into spirituality or social issues. On this track, King Shango finds himself in a relationship with a woman with whom he seems to be frustrated because of their ongoing arguments. Hence, he says it’s over and done.

This is a solid record that was well written and performed immaculately by Capleton. The production team should also be acknowledged for the quality mix, backing vocals, etc. Over & Done is available on all streaming platforms. If you are into authentic reggae-dancehall music, you should check it out.

The journey of an artist through the evolving landscapes of musical genres embodies both expansion and growth. Alwayne Love, a figure who once worked solely within the vibrant realms of dancehall under the moniker J-Love, exemplifies such a trek.
