Uzman Celebrates Emancipation Month With New Single “August Free (Emancipation Anthem)”

Uzman, the Jamaican-Canadian rap artist, is hoping to make a significant impact this Emancipation Month with his new single titled “August Free (Emancipation Anthem).” Commemorated in Canada every August, Emancipation Month serves as a reminder of the end of slavery within the British Empire on August 1, 1834, following the enactment of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833. This month not only acknowledges the enduring legacy of slavery, but it also celebrates the resilience and strength of Black communities. This is usually done through various gatherings and festivities.

Uzman‘s latest release, which went live on streaming platforms on May 12th under his own Beat Charge Incorporated music label, embodies this spirit of remembrance and unity. The soca-inspired track highlights the importance of acknowledging this historical milestone while encouraging collaboration within Black communities across Canada. By addressing the numerous issues faced by Black immigrants and their descendants, “August Free (Emancipation Anthem)” serves as a tribute to those who came before us. Importantly, it also highlights the fact that legislation was enacted recognizing an entire month (August) as Emancipation Month.

Listeners can access “August Free (Emancipation Anthem)” on major streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, Amazon Music, and others. As we reflect upon this essential chapter in our history during Emancipation Month, Uzman‘s anthem stands as an uplifting reminder of our shared journey.
