On Saturday, August 30, 2025, the City of Boston and Mayor Michelle Wu will host a special public celebration at the intersection of Dearborn and Albany Streets in Roxbury to honor legendary R\&B group New Edition.

Starting at 10 a.m., this free event will recognize the group’s remarkable impact on Boston’s cultural identity and their enduring influence on the global music industry. As part of the festivities, the City will officially unveil New Edition Way, a permanent tribute in the neighborhood where the group’s journey began.

Formed in Roxbury in the early 1980s, New Edition rose to international fame with a string of chart-topping hits, helping to shape the sound of modern R\&B and inspiring generations of artists. The street renaming not only commemorates their musical legacy but also celebrates their roots and ongoing connection to the community that helped shape their success.
