Hezron Delivers Soulful Ballad For Black History Month “Kuja Nyumbani”

In keeping with the annual Black History Month celebration, singer, songwriter, and guitarist Hezron, in collaboration with Tad’s Record, releases “Kuja Nyumbani.” Kuja Nyumbani is a Swahili phrase that translates to ‘come home’ in English. However, Hezron, being the unexceptionable creative that he is, added a twist to the name of his song by using the subtitle “I want to go Home.”

“Kuja Nyumbani” was first shared in 2022 on Hezron‘s “M.O.A.M. (Man On a Mission)” 17-track album. The decision to publish “Kuja Nyumbani” now is very timely, and it is reassuring to Black History enthusiasts, Pan-Africanists, etc., who have become concerned that the observance of Reggae Month in February has diminished the commemoration of the Black story, which is also done at this time of year.

Hezron is a deep thinker, skillful writer, and masterful vocalist. All three can be heard on this very strong, extremely powerful record. What’s more, in anticipation of the song being re-released to streaming platforms today, February 7th, 2025, Tad’s Record uploaded the official video to their YouTube channel a few days ago. The visual is just as compelling as the audio.

Veteran Guyanese Reggae Artist Winston Irie Shares His Faith In New Single “Unto Thee O’Lord”

In the late 1970s, Winston Sumner, known publicly as Winston Irie, migrated from Guyana to Brooklyn, New York. Once in the U.S., he connected with like minded individuals and began sharing his love for music by way of live performances. His stint on the live circuit was followed by him recording and releasing various songs that have always, for the most part, been socially conscious or highly spiritual. His latest single, “Unto Thee O’Lord,” is arguably his most religious record to date; this is according to those who have heard it.

“Unto Thee O’Lord” is a reggae-ska tune that was produced by Bernard Joseph, who is affectionately referred to as IOBIDerrick Barnett, and Winston Irie. It is literally a praise and worship track that highlights Winston‘s Ethiopian Orthodox faith. In fact, when asked what inspired the record, he said, “I was inspired by the Ethiopian Orthodox teachings of Psalms and Scriptures.”

Winston Irie has been actively involved in Apostolic Christianity for many years. He was drawn to this way of life by members of his family, teachings of the former Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie I, Jamaican activist Marcus Mosiah Garvey, and Jamaican singer, songwriter, and guitarist Robert Nesta Marley.

“Unto Thee O’Lord” is a beautiful, melodious tune that can be streamed and downloaded on all major music platforms. It was shared on the 4/20 Records label.
