Catch Tarrus Riley & Mesha Steele In Philly This Weekend

On Sunday, October 6th, prominent reggae artist Tarrus Riley will perform at the Ardmore Music Hall in Pennsylvania. He will be supported by rising recording artist Mesha Steele, who, not so long ago, also opened for Beres Hammond at his concert in Philadelphia. In light of these back-to-back career-changing opportunities, Mesha spoke with MJ27 to share some insights. See the full conversation below.

MJ27: How do you feel about opening up for Tarrus Riley this weekend?

MESHA: Opening for Tarrus Riley signifies a major step in my career and validation of my artistic journey. I’m overwhelmed with excitement for finally getting this opportunity!

MJ27: What can attendees expect from your performance?

MESHA: With Riley having such a strong fanbase, this means I would need to make a lasting impression on a large and discerning audience. Armed with my latest single “Touch Di Road” which is a sweet serenade between lovers, in addition to my previously released single, “Ghetto Blues” which highlights the struggles of a single mother, I believe my repertoire aligns with Tarrus’ emphasis on themes of love, empowerment, and social consciousness.

MJ27: What do you think about Tarrus Riley and his music?

MESHA: I hold Tarrus Riley and his music in high regard, both as a reggae artist and as someone passionate about music myself. Given Riley’s influence and success in the reggae world, I admire several key aspects of his work:

I appreciate how Riley blends traditional roots reggae with modern elements of soul, R&B, and dancehall. As a musician, I value the way Riley stays true to reggae’s cultural and social themes while experimenting with different sounds, making him relevant to a wide audience.

Tarrus Riley’s lyrics often center on love, empowerment, and social consciousness, which are themes that resonate deeply in the reggae genre. I, who have my own voice as an artist, respect the way Riley uses his platform to spread positivity and address real world issues.

As someone who has faced my own challenges in the music industry, I find inspiration in Riley’s long-standing career and international success. His ability to break into global markets while staying authentic to his Jamaican roots is something I strive to emulate in my own career.

MJ27: Have you ever performed with him before or is this going to be the first show with him?

MESHA: While I’ve had the pleasure to see Tarrus at work at I.R.A.M.A. Sometime ago, and had a total fan girl moment when I realized we were on the same Jamaica bound flight once, this would be my first time sharing the stage with Riley.
