On Saturday, February 23rd, Roses 88.9 FM will be hosting the 2019 staging of their annual Big League stage-show. Confirmed artists include: Lady G, Cocoa Tea, Capleton, Half Pint, Tarrus Riley, and that is just to name a few. Additional music will be provided by: True Heart Sound, Black Roses Sound, Digital Chris and others.
Big League will be held at Carty Hill in Clarendon. Admission is $1,500 for regular entrance and $3,000 for V.I.P.
Reggae/dancehall star Buju Banton will perform his first concert following his release from prison on March 16th, 2019 at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Buju and his 10-piece Shiloh Band will perform a 90-minute set as they kick off the Long Walk to Freedom Tour.
This show is being presented by Miami-based Best of the Best Productions and Kingston’s Solid Agency.
Jamaican singer, producer and dub pioneer, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, is confirmed for a performance at Sala Apolo (located at Nou de la Rambla 113) in Barcelona, Spain. Perry will be performing songs from his recently released The Black Album with support from the Seva Band.
This event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3rd. Doors will open at 20:30 and Perry will hit the stage at 21:30. Click here for tickets.
We are excited to announce that international recording artist Chezidek will be joining Ruach Ru PON DI ENDZ on Wednesday, January 30th. A lot of anticipation is building for this event, which is being dubbed “The Roots & Culture Edition.” Other confirmed artists include: Mikey General, Michael Fabulous, Isha Bel, Asante Amen, Imar Shephard, Amaziyah and that is just to name a few. The backing band for the evening will be The Spirit Band.
This staging of PON DI ENDZ will be held at Kgn10 Sports Bar & Grill (1 Hillview Avenue – off Eastwood Park Road) in Kingston, Jamaica. Presold tickets are available now for only $800 JMD.
Wayne Marshall at Rebel Salute 2019
The 2019 staging of the annual Rebel Salute Festival took place over the weekend and it was, in my opinion, “the preservation of Jamaican culture, music and lifestyle.”
The two-night event, which started out many years ago as a roots, reggae, Rasta stage show, has grown into an international celebration of all the sites, sounds and tastes
of Jamaica.
As is done every year, Rebel Salute features a wide variety of both emerging and established reggae and dancehall talents and this year was no exception. Some of the standout performances from night one were Jah Bouks, who took the audience back to Africa with a captivating set; Koffee, the young protege of veteran reggae artist Cocoa Tea and Wayne Marshall, who gave us a burst of energy with his performance.
On night two, Chalice Band, Half Pint and Louie Culture took patrons on a musical journey as they all dropped back to back hits and had the crowd singing along with every song. Jesse Royal gave an epic performance! Agent Sasco and Dre Island delivered! All and all, I would say that most, if not all the artists that took to the Rebel Salute stage did their thing.
There were some key moments that must be highlighted however. First is Andrew Tosh being cut off after singing only one song, as well as Bushman not being allowed to finish his set. It seems both incidents occurred due to time constraints, which resulted in Tosh and Bushman being noticeably upset and openly speaking about it on the
mic. Another key moment that I’m sure everyone will be talking about for a while is Queen Ifrica‘s set. Once she stepped on the stage Queen made it known that she was
feeling emotional and proceeded to voice her concerns about a number of things: the negative influence some are having on our youths, the push to normalize homosexuality
and lesbianism in Jamaica, the upcoming political changes slated to take place on the island this year etc.
For us in the audience the show came off as entertaining, educational and just an overall good experience. That being said, it was clear that there were a lot of issues
regarding stage and time management taking place backstage. Regardless what was going on, credit must be given to Tony Rebel and his team for the obvious growth of the
event, which is now a real tourist pull here in Jamaica.
Veteran reggae artist Richie Spice has just released his new single “Beautiful Life,” done in collaboration with Toronto based singer / songwriter Kathryn Aria. The song is on the VP Music Group Inc. Record label and it was officially shared on January 18th.
The new single combines two of Richie’s strongest themes: love and consciousness. “Beautiful Life” simultaneously presents itself as a lover’s tune while bridging together the universal concept of ‘One Love’ for life and consciousness. Produced by Steven Stanley, the song is sure to become a staple in Richie Spice’s already impressive music catalog.

Reggae legend Freddie McGregor will be returning to California on Friday, April 19th for a performance at Moe’s Alley (located at 1535 Commercial Way in Santa Cruz). This is a 9 PM show, though doors will open at 8 PM. The entrance fee is $25 USD in advance and $30 USD at the door.
