With an onslaught of updates about the corona virus pandemic dominating the airwaves, many people may have missed the news about the passing of two R&B legends: Betty Wright and Little Richard.
Betty Wright, who is known for hits like ‘thank you for the many things you’ve done’ and ‘no pain no gain,’ died from cancer on Sunday, May 10th at her home in Miami. She was 66 years young.
As for Little Richard, he passed away on Saturday, May 9th, from complications related to bone cancer. He was 87.
A few hours ago India.Arie premiered the visuals for Crazy and Sacred Space, two of the songs featured on her 2019 Worthy album. Both clips were released together, as one, in the form of a short film titled Welcome Home.

R&B artist Mary J. Blige will star in “Body Cam,” a new horror thriller film being released under the Paramount Players banner on May 19th. It was directed by Malik Vitthal and produced by Matt Kaplan.
According to SF Gate, “Body Cam” centers on several LAPD police officers who are haunted by a malevolent spirit that is tied to the murder of a black youth at the hands of two white cops, all of which are caught on a body cam video that was destroyed in a cover-up. Watch the trailer here.
After the success of the Teddy Riley / Babyface music challenge in April, the organizers are gearing up to do it again. This time around they are highlighting two of the biggest female R&B stars: Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.

After initially rescheduling from May to September in the early weeks of the COVID-19 crisis, Canadian Music Week 2020 is now officially cancelled. CMW CEO Danya Dixon emailed conference and festival attendees last night, May 4th, to confirm the news.
All ticketed concerts have been refunded or are in the process of being refunded, according to CMW.
On May 1st Brandy released her new single – a R&B track titled “Baby Mama” – done in collaboration with Chance the Rapper. A few days later, on the 4th, she followed up with the official video, which was accompanied by a powerful message about what inspired the project.
