Capleton’s “A St. Mary Mi Come From” Returns On August 5th

One of Jamaica’s most entertaining and charitable music events, A St. Mary Mi Come From, will be back in full swing at the Gray’s Inn Sports Complex in Annotto Bay, Saint Mary, on Monday, August 5th. Strategically scheduled around the nation’s Independence celebration, the expectation is that the turnout in 2024 will be bigger than that of previous years.

A St. Mary Mi Come From was initially conceptualized by reggae-dancehall megastar Capleton. It not only acts as a platform to showcase emerging artists, but through its staging, Capleton is able to demonstrate his commitment to charitable endeavors by making substantial donations to Jamaica’s schools, hospitals, etc., especially those located in the parish of St. Mary.

The media launch, which will be hosted by financial advisor and event curator Marlon Campbell, is being held at the Jamaica Pegasus Lawn this coming Wednesday, June 19th, starting at 7:00 p.m. local time. There, the event’s full program, including all confirmed performers, will be announced.

Music Review: Capleton “Over & Done”

Known in part for his aggressive DJ style, it is not often that we hear veteran dancehall artist Capleton singing. However, on his recently released single, Over & Done, that’s exactly what he did in the chorus.

Over & Done was shared on June 7th, 2024 via Deki Records. Everything about this dancehall tune stands out and has an inexplicable energy. From the artwork, which has a book panned to the left with Capleton‘s name and the song title on its cover, with a WhatsApp message in the background, to the track itself.

What’s more, Over & Done is a love song. This is another rarity for the Rastafarian deejay whose music usually delves into spirituality or social issues. On this track, King Shango finds himself in a relationship with a woman with whom he seems to be frustrated because of their ongoing arguments. Hence, he says it’s over and done.

This is a solid record that was well written and performed immaculately by Capleton. The production team should also be acknowledged for the quality mix, backing vocals, etc. Over & Done is available on all streaming platforms. If you are into authentic reggae-dancehall music, you should check it out.
