DJ Kool G & DJ Matches Create New Reggae/Dancehall Record Label ‘Innovation Muzik’ (@InnovationMuzik)

In October 2020, While many of us were focused on the global pandemic, two Jamaican-American selectors: Garfield Lewin aka DJ Kool G and DJ Matches, were busy laying the foundation for their new record label, Innovation Muzik. The company, which will be laser focused on creating high quality reggae and dancehall music, though operating primarily out of the U.S., will work with known and respected Jamaican artists, producers and musicians.

Both men are approaching this new venture with the belief that by partnering their unique strengths they will make Innovation Muzik a force to be reckoned with. Their very first project will be a Tarrus Riley single, titled “Be Great,” that’s scheduled for release later this month. It will be followed by a full rhythm-driven project that will feature top-tier artists like Queen Ifrica, Luciano and a host of others.

As someone who is credited for breaking records for artists like T Pain, Pitbull, Eminem, Trick Daddy, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Flo-rida, DJ Khaled and others, DJ Kool G is hoping he can transfer that energy to the songs on his label. For his part, DJ Matches, who has a strong work ethic and a can-do approach to everything, is very optimistic about the upcoming projects on Innovation Muzik.

Karamanti Kicks Off 2021 With The Release Of A New Afrobeat Single “Mi Nuh Bow”

After what can only be considered an unpredictable year, Karamanti is kicking off 2021 with the release of a new afrobeat single, titled “Mi Nuh Bow.” Last year, once it became clear that we were in a pandemic, the lyricist decided to abandoned all plans to create and release new music. She instead focused on completing projects already started, and “Mi Nuh Bow” falls in that category.

It was recorded some time ago at Anchor Recording Studio in Kingston, Jamaica by engineer Delroy ‘Fatta’ Pottinger, and later mixed and mastered by Donald ‘Tixie’ Dixon in Miami, Florida.

As she tends to do on most of her tracks, Karamanti once again reaffirms her position as a conscious recording artist who is determined to remain steadfast in her faith and positive lifestyle. On a bouncy afrobeat rhythm – which was created by Zimbabwean singer Teban Cee – she chants:

“Karamanti mi nuh bow no no
I and I never go down oh no
God pickney a no clown no no
Mi dem cannot push around oh no”

“Mi Nuh Bow” is on Karamanti’s own Blakkwuman22 Music label.

Hip-Hop Artist Cassidy Releases New Single With Beenie Man (@CASSIDY_LARSINY @KingBeenieMan)

Philly MC Cassidy, who many hip-hop lovers agree is one of the most underrated lyricist in the rap industry, has just released a new single titled “In My Bag.” The hard hitting record is a collaboration done with Jamaican dancehall star Beenie Man

On the track, both men lament on their abilities to engage women and make money. Though these subject matters are very cliché in the hip-hop world, it is the way in which the lyrics were delivered that makes “In My Bag” outstanding. On what is considered an authentic hip-hop beat – produced by Platinum Camp Records – Cassidy kicks off the song with the catchy hook: “I’m in my bag watch me; are you in your bag copy.” He then goes into his verse, repeats the chorus and then makes way for Beenie Man.

Special attention must be paid to Beenie Man‘s verse, as it’s not often that a Jamaican dancehall artist gets invited on a hip-hop project and is either able to stand next to his host lyrically, or even out-do him. Beenie Man definitely showed why he is branded as the dancehall king on this rap record.
