Veteran Jamaican radio DJ Ron Muchette has recently inked a deal with the Caribbean Global Network (CGN) Group to be included among the roster of talent for the new radio station: The Bridge 99FM.

The Bridge 99FM is poised to help build stronger ties between Jamaica and the Jamaican Diaspora in the New York tri-state area, thereby creating opportunities for a robust exchange of information, culture and trade. This is to be achieved, in part, by a simulcast of The Bridge’s programming by its sister station Irie Jam Radio, 93.5 FM – WVIP to its over 2 million-strong Caribbean audience in the tri-state area.

Ron Muchette, one of Jamaica’s most respected radio DJ and host, joins The Bridge 99FM team after over six years at Mello FM as a morning show producer and broadcaster. His addition to what is expected to be an all-star roster, will be a considerable boost as The Bridge 99FM works towards its mission of forging stronger linkages and community building.

In a blockbuster move that some say is a definite game changer in radio broadcasting, the Caribbean Global Network (CGN) Group, the operators of Queens, New York-based IRIE Jam Radio will, in July, 2021, launch a brand new radio station in Jamaica called The Bridge 99FM. The 99FM dial was previously owned by the RJR Communications Group.

Director of the CGN Group, Bobby Clarke, who made the announcement recently disclosed that The Bridge will simulcast on IRIE Jam Radio, 93.5 FM – WVIP in the tri-state area and will connect Jamaicans at home with the Jamaican diaspora in the USA.

The new station will target 25 to 75 year old Jamaicans across all socio-economic groups at home, and first, second and third generation Jamaicans in the diaspora who want to maintain a strong link to the island.

As of Thursday, July 1st, event organizers and promoters in Jamaica may make applications for permits through their local authorities, who will work with them to ensure protocols are in place for a safe affair.

The government have announced that small (up to 100 person) outdoor concerts, parties, round-robins, festivals, community gatherings, corporate mixers etc. can resume, providing that all safety measures are in place.

A couple weeks ago Ghetto Youths International released Feel Good, an up-tempo Caribbean pop song performed by veteran reggae group Third World and established dancehall artist Busy Signal.

Earlier this year Karamanti announced that she will be releasing her second studio album. The project, which was to be shared in May, have been pushed back to August. One of the main reason for the new date is the death of popular audio engineer Tixie, who has been Karamanti‘s personal mixing engineer for the past few years. 

When Tixie died and it became clear that there was no way Karamanti and her team would make the initially stated release date, she took advantage of the new time-frame by reaching out to a couple of producers for additional tracks. One of the producer that she invited to work on the record is award winning producer and audio engineer Delroy ‘Phatta’ Pottinger. 

Having known each other for many years, Phatta did not hesitate. He immediately responded with two rich, bassy reggae tracks that have already transformed the entire project. For those not familiar with him, Phatta is a recording engineer, mixing engineer and producer whose highly respected and admired in the reggae / dancehall industry. He started working at Anchor Recording Studio in 1993 through to 1997. And after taking time to work on personal projects and touring, he returned to Anchor in 2000 and has been there ever since. Phatta‘s producer credits include songs for Capleton, Half Pint, George Nooks, Sizzla Kalonji, and that is just to name a few.

Other producers that will be featured on Karamanti‘s upcoming album are: Major P (Europe), Arioso Legato (U.S.A.) and Lamar Thompson (Jamaica).
