Karamanti Releases New Single “Jehovah Tell Me”

On her latest single, Jehovah Tell Me, recording artist Karamanti shines a bright light on Jamaica’s hypocrisy, as it relates to the nation’s ongoing gun crimes. Done as both a prayer to God and a criticism of man’s lack of integrity, the deejay calls out Jamaicans who openly bashes the government for the high murder rate, while simultaneously withholding information about known criminals.

The song is presented on the Harder They Come Riddim, produced and released by Kingston based label, Jungle Lava Productions. And although most of the other tracks on the compilation are secular, Karamanti – as she has always done – makes God the central theme in her music.

In addition to her tune, Karamanti, an active songwriter for other artists, also penned Jazz Black‘s song, Dibby Dibby. It’s the only other unworldly track on the EP.

Dancehall Nice Again! Madhouse Records Returns With Slow Motion Riddim (@dubshot)

‘Bad like 90s dancehall’ is a phrase often used by current dancehall acts when attempting to explain either their street status or their lyrical prowess. The term is utilized frequently because of its unquestionable accuracy. Dancehall songs from the 90s, all the way up to the early 2000s, were truly intoxicating, or as we say in Jamaica, ‘bad’! (which means really good).

Try as they do, today’s dancehall artists and producers have yet to create the kind of music we were getting in that era. However, all is not lost because some of the creators from that decade is still at it.

Dave Kelly, co-founder of Madhouse Records – the imprint that gave us some of the biggest  dancehall rhythms to date: Pepperseed, Joyride, Showtime, Fiesta, and 85 – is back with a new juggling. Released on Friday, July 7th, Slow Motion Riddim, a steady sweet-sounding four-track compilation, which is being distributed by DubShot Records, has all the ingredients of the preceding EPs. That also includes the dancehall stars featured on the project: Baby Cham, Bounty Killer, Dexta Daps, Busy Signal, TOK, and Blakkman.

Songs on the Slow Motion Riddim were shared to all streaming platforms as individual singles, while also being available, collectively, on the compilation.

Hugh English Asks The Tough Questions On Upcoming Single (@bigfeetrecords)

Veteran reggae artist Hugh English is gearing up for the release of his new single, Where Do We Go From Here. Produced by Josh Harris and the team at Big Feet Records, the song will be available on streaming platforms on Friday, July 21, 2023.

Since entering the music industry many years ago, English has always delivered inspirational and uplifting tunes, while confronting social issues head on. He prides himself on giving his audiences hope as oppose to despair, admitting that this is sometimes difficult. The forthcoming track must have been a balancing act however, because on it Hugh draws our attention to the current state of society and all its flaws, and then follows up with the question: Where Do We Go From Here?

Executive producer and musician Josh Harris has developed a strong working relationship with Hugh English over the years. The two have collaborated on other projects and are both optimistic about this new record.
