Music Review: Capleton “Over & Done”

Known in part for his aggressive DJ style, it is not often that we hear veteran dancehall artist Capleton singing. However, on his recently released single, Over & Done, that’s exactly what he did in the chorus.

Over & Done was shared on June 7th, 2024 via Deki Records. Everything about this dancehall tune stands out and has an inexplicable energy. From the artwork, which has a book panned to the left with Capleton‘s name and the song title on its cover, with a WhatsApp message in the background, to the track itself.

What’s more, Over & Done is a love song. This is another rarity for the Rastafarian deejay whose music usually delves into spirituality or social issues. On this track, King Shango finds himself in a relationship with a woman with whom he seems to be frustrated because of their ongoing arguments. Hence, he says it’s over and done.

This is a solid record that was well written and performed immaculately by Capleton. The production team should also be acknowledged for the quality mix, backing vocals, etc. Over & Done is available on all streaming platforms. If you are into authentic reggae-dancehall music, you should check it out.
