Hopeton Lindo and Hawkeye bring their distinctive styles together on Favorite, a collaborative track recorded on the Favorite Riddim. Produced by Lindo under his Irie Pen Records imprint, the single is scheduled for release on May 29 with distribution by Zojak Worldwide.
The veteran entertainers decided to collaborate after reconnecting in Kingston last March. While they had known each other for many years, their relationship strengthened through their extensive work with legendary production duo Sly and Robbie at the duo’s Kingston studio.
“Hawkeye is one of my favorite deejays and has been a good friend for years. I first met him at Sly and Robbie’s studio. The idea for the collaboration came about during Sly Dunbar’s recent celebration of life, where we both performed and paid tribute to Sly at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston,” Lindo explained. “More recently, we discussed the concept further and realized that his approach fit perfectly with the riddim.”
Lindo also noted that Favorite serves as an extension of the Favorite Riddim project, which features contributions from himself, Sanchez, Anthony Malvo, Peter G, Novel T, and Inique. The project also includes a juggling mix from King Waggy T, a pioneer of the South Florida sound system scene.
Hawkeye expressed enthusiasm about participating in the project and praised the opportunity to work alongside Lindo.
“Working with Hopeton Lindo is legendary, I would say. You’re talking about a legend with hit songs and exceptional lyrical delivery joining forces with Hawkeye, another lyrical hit-maker. What else could anyone call that? Nothing but legendary!”Hawkeye said.
As an artist, Lindo is known for songs such as Territory, Silent Consent, and Lonely Night. Beyond his recording career, he has established himself as a highly respected songwriter, having written or co-written numerous classics including Temptress by Maxi Priest,Red Rose for Gregory by Gregory Isaacs,Telephone Love by J.C. Lodge,Can You by Brian & Tony Gold, and Wanna Be Loved by Buju Banton.
Hawkeye emerged as one of dancehall’s leading acts during the 1990s, delivering popular tracks including Arrest Mi Officer, Twingy Twang, and Bubble & Wine.
