The team felt that it would be good to follow up with an equally solid project almost a year later in the form of the Rock All Riddim.”

David Conscious – Biography

David Conscious, whose birth name is David Oral Brown, is the last of seven children to parents Floris Small (mother) and Granville Benjamin Brown (father). This consciously aware and motivational artist was born on May 2nd, 1979 in the cool hills of York Castle, Claremont, St Ann, close to the birthplace of the legendary Robert Nesta Marley. It must be noted that the parish of  St Ann is also  the birthplace of other great musicians like; Burning Spear and Shabba Ranks.

At the age of 10 months Conscious and his family moved to  the peaceful community of Eltham, Ocho Rios, St. Ann and during his formative years attended the Eltham Basic School and then   to Exchange All Age School. At the age of seven his family relocated to Content Garden, but he  continued at Exchange All Age until he matriculated to Ocho Rios High School, where he excelled in his studies and sporting activities. Conscious became very popular in Football, often finding himself playing for local teams and reaching some great achievements in playing on both the Cricket and Football teams. His greatest desire was however to be a writer and singer and at the  tender age of 10, David could be found with his classmates writing songs and beating the desks for fun. At 17 years old he graduated from high school and it was at this point he began to take his musical career more seriously.  David pursued a career in Iron welding at the renown institutions of Boswell Iron works and Martins Metal works but his professional career could not keep him from his sensational appetite for music.

David began singing with a local sound system called ‘Black Heart Sound’ owned by Lincoln Garden. It was with ‘Black Heart Sound’, as well as guidance from another upcoming Artist in his community Delly Marshall X that helped David developed his skills and nurture his passion for music. Loving the earth and fully embracing nature, David found inspiration for his music by taking walks through the hills or by relaxing by the riverside alone or with his friends. He enjoyed singing to the delight of his friends who helped to motivate him.

In the 1990s, David recorded his first release at President Brown Studio on Main Street, Ocho Rios. He recorded dubplates and 45s for some notable sound systems like that of Log British, Chronic Sound, Tallas and the UK’s Love Light Studio.

David achieved a milestone in becoming one of the first contestants to be featured in Jamaica’s renown Rising Star Competition in 2004 and later in the 2000s he began to do voicing  for  Double Lion Studio in Tower Isle, St. Mary, Junkyard Studio in White River, Ocho Rios  and Cut Stone Studio in St. Anns Bay.   David is known for work he has done with Wayne Clarke from Exchange Production, “Sorrows and Pain”,  his first release, which was played on Irie FM.   2006 David   worked  with Labels such as Daddy Juice from Jet Star in the UK and  Sinisa Vein from Croatia’s number one reggae radio station. He also did a collaboration with French Artist, Ezra Notillious. David Conscious also worked with Black Champagne Label out of Japan which had him climbing the charts in Japan with his track “Take me to that Place”. In 2009 David Conscious independently produced a track titled “These are the times’ featuring Jah Faith Cameron.

David Conscious has a unique, powerful and thought provoking sound, with lyrics that compares him to artists the likes of Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and Capelton (King Shango The Fireman). David equates a lot of his inspiration in his music to artists like Sizzla, Garnet Silk, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh and  enjoys listening to artists like Frankie Paul, Admiral Tibet, Shaka Demus and Pliers and R&B singers such as Anita Baker. David credits his father for instilling his love of reggae music as a child  listening to his father singing  vintage reggae songs around the house. He is a very versatile creator, dabbling in the creative styles of not only singing but also DJying, Singjaying, Dub Poetry and Chanting.

In 2015 David Conscious built a recording studio and created his label “Conscious Heights Production” where he and  his team  Otis “De De” Harris co-, created and Sheldon “Carrot” Brian co-produced the infamous  ‘One Pants’ riddim, that featured notable artists such as Teflon, Anthony B, Dada and Perfect.  This riddim was featured on Irie FM with Talia Powers and Digital Chris.

David has plans to travel globally with his music, hoping to travel across Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean; bringing his intellectually inspiring lyrics across borders. Beside the music David has a love and passion for good healthy Ital (Vegan) food and fully enjoys cooking  in the hills of Jamaica, amongst nature. He also loves and enjoys the sounds and vibrations of the Kette drum which he plays. David is very philosophical and wants to leave to his audience this message;

“To my earth family,
Let’s give thanks for the privilege of being here;
Experiencing this life,
It was ordained for us to be here in this dispensation
So there is no need to fight.
Let us stay as one,
Because if we unite as one,
No matter our race or class,
We can overcome any challenges and adversities,
So we should all raise our frequency to the highest vibration of the earth and
That is what will resonate with us.
Remember why we are here… to experience this reality.”
