On Friday, December 16, St. Catherine High School Alumni Association will host their 2022 barbecue on the school grounds – 35 St John’s Road – in Spanish Town, Jamaica. The fun-day will feature rides for the pupils, a music room, and a stage show with performances by Jah Vinci and other popular dancehall artists.
Entrance fee for students is $1,800 JMD; while adults are being asked to pay $2,500. This is an all day event that will begin in the morning at approximately 11am.
In September of this year, Gramps Morgan – a member of the international reggae group Morgan Heritage – released a six-track EP titled Deeper. The project can appropriately be classified as soul music fused with Caribbean rhythms, done in acoustic style.

Chandler Moore and Naomi Raine, two of the leaders in American urban contemporary gospel music, will be in Jamaica on Saturday, December 10th, 2022. They will perform at the National Stadium in Kingston alongside some of Jamaica’s worship leaders: Carlene Davis, Kevin Downswell, Rondell Positive and Rhoda Isabella.
Starting time is 6pm, but patrons will be able to enter the stadium from as early as 2pm. This event is being hosted by Kingdom Culture. Get tickets here.
Next week Friday – on December 9th – Big Feet Records will share a new ska tune performed by Natural Black, titled Mission to Conquer.
The song is a labor of love by executive producer Josh Harris, who after reviewing some of Natural‘s previous recordings felt he was a good fit for the track. Black, a Guyanese from Georgetown who is currently based in Kingston, Jamaica, was able to write and voice the tune almost immediately after being approached. Following the initial introduction and once Harris‘ vision was made clear to all relevant parties, the synergy between both brands – Big Feet Records and Natural Black – was seamless.
Natural Black started out by voicing for such legendary producers as Gordon Lee, Jack Scorpio, Freddie McGregor and Beres Hammond. His distinctively smooth and mellow voice left an impression in the forefront of the new-roots and culture movement that was happening at the time. With a slew of modest hits, Natural Black steadily gained fans and recognition, and in 2006 became an international success with the chart topping single Far From Reality.
Josh Harris and the rest of the team at Big Feet Records are excited about this upcoming release, as they’re confident all lovers of ska music will enjoy it.
TRIBL Records – one of the leading imprints for Christian and gospel music in the U.S. – in collaboration with recording artist Jonathan Nelson, will be giving away $5,000 cash prize to any musician, band, soloist, group or duo, that’s able to do the most creative interpretation of Nelson‘s hit song I Believe.

Old Talk Riddim, the new three-track EP from Trinidadian singer, songwriter and producer Nadia Batson, features collaborations with Romain Virgo and Farmer Nappy, as well as the Extended Play’s instrumental.
At the end of November – on the 29th – she released the official video for the track done with Romain Virgo; a throbbing soca tune titled Nothing Better. The stunning visuals, which shows the two overtly committing to each other, is an accurate reflection of the words in song.

The man who burst on the scene as a dancehall deejay in the 70s, using the moniker Prince Mohamed, has just blessed us with the visuals for one of the tracks featured on his 2021 album, Through It All. George Nooks – via Tad’s Record Inc. – released the official video for the well-liked Christian hymn, I Surrender All, in mid November (on the 18th to be exact).
Although the words in the song were penned more than a century ago by Judson W. Van DeVenter, an American art teacher and musician who subsequently became a music minister and evangelist, it is this reggae remix – produced and sang by George Nooks – that’s got the reggae community’s attention.
And, despite the fact that Nooks has achieved financial success, countless accolades and worldwide recognition as a secular recording artist, he has – since the start of his career – been committed to singing reggae-gospel music. This dedication became apparent when his grandmother died in 2001. He had this to say about I Surrender All and some of his other gospel recordings: “From I was little I listened to some of these songs in church. My grandmother was the mother of the church and I used to be there with her all the time.”
