DJ DALVY

Introducing DJ Dalvy: She is based in Portland, Jamaica and is arguably one of the most consistent female disc jockeys on the island. MJ Magazine’s DJ Solo recently sat down with her for an interview, this is how it went down.

Q. When did you first get the “music bug?”
A. Well I started loving music growing up listening to my brothers
singing, deejaying & watching sound clashes.

Q. What caught your attention about music?
A. Being in the music industry working hard gives you the opportunity to travel the world and I want to be able to accomplish that goal. It’s really a great feeling to have the crowd giving a female disc jockey the love and support.

Q. What are your favorite genre to listen to?
A. My favorite genre is Soca; I really love listening to the soca music especially the new ones that are coming out now

Q. Describe the first time you played for an audience.
A. First time I played for an audience I had everyone staring at me and asking if I am the one playing. They just stood there and watched me spinning and giving me forwards.

Q.What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
A.My greatest accomplishment has been attracting promoters here in Jamaica & overseas.

Q.What’s your long term goal in the industry?
A.Being able to reach out to my international fans, help aspiring djs like myself and artist to get out there.

Q.What are some of the changes you would like to see in the industry?
A.I would like to see the DJs that people already know give the younger DJs there chance to showcase their talent; promoters who depends on the bar and kitchen to pay DJs need to change that standard; promoters who put DJs on posters without their knowledge need to stop ……….. the list goes on. There is a lot that needs to be changed in the industry.

Q.Who are your top 3 DJ’s and why?
A.My top 3 Djs are Zj Liquid, Zj Sparks, Dj Ashile ,they are professionals I admire their talent and they have great mixing skills.

Q.In your own words describe your job as a DJ.
A.My job as Dj is not an easy task. It’s been rough out there reaching out to promoters attending events and don’t perform for the night… trust me is not easy at all.

Q. What advice would you give to aspiring DJ’s?
A. I would advise aspiring DJs to keep pushing to the top, don’t settle for anything also to have a 9-5 job will help balance your DJ career.

Sherwin Gardner Delivers New Gospel Gem “Fixer” (@sherwingardner)

00-fixerCaribbean Gospel sensation Sherwin Gardner delivers his new inspirational hit “Fixer,” available worldwide from all major digital retailers on August 14, 2015. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, and now based in Antigua and Barbuda, Gardner is a triple-threat as the producer, performer and songwriter of this Gospel gem, under his own imprint Flow Masters Records.
