In April, veteran reggae artist Freddie McGregor published a new song titled “If God Is For Us.” Shortly after its release the bouncy reggae track began trending, which resulted in a digital media tour for the big ship captain.

Qadamaweh was created to implement the laws attached to the Solomonic Dynasty based on the teachings and ethics of the Ethiopian Empire, Haile Selassie I the first. The organization is headed by Miguel Orlando Collins, who is publicly known as Sizzla Kalonji – a reggae and dancehall artist based in Jamaica.
A few days ago Sizzla reached out to his fans on social media and encouraged them to become formal members of Qadamaweh. He promised that by joining they would have access to personal interactions and live sessions.
A couple months ago New Jersey based reggae artist King Tappa released the single “No Drama” via his own King Tappa Productions label. As the title implies, the record is all about avoiding the negativity that so often consumes persons in the music industry.
For those not familiar with King Tappa, he is a selector turned artist that’s been in the business for well over ten years. Having released two albums in the past, Tappa‘s objective is now to take his career to the next level, while strategically staying away from obstructive energies.

In the current social climate, Chezidek has stepped up and continues his trend of producing conscious music with a positive message. His new single “March” is a call for mobility and equality; reflecting the global movement of justice for all.
July 23, 2020 will go down as a special day for Chezidek. The roots singer’s latest album, “Hello Africa,” will be released on that date by Tad’s International Record; significantly, it is also the birthday of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I.
The date is important to Chezidek who, like all Rastafarians, revere Selassie as an omnipotent figure. Produced by his Cheziberry Records, he believes “Hello Africa” is his most hard-hitting work to date, boosted by songs like “Because I’m Black,” and “March.”
“Because I’m Black,” a jab at institutionalized racism, sets the tone for “Hello Africa” and the second single “March” calls to global unification and action to tackle the injustices of the world.
At the end of June Jamaican gospel artist Kevin Downswell shared the remix of his hit song “Stronger.” The new version, which was done to bring hope and inspiration to everyone struggling in these trying times, features: Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Tessanne Chin, Wayne Marshall, DJ Bambino, Christopher Martin and several other top-tier artists.

In a major development, the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honorable Olivia Grange, has announced plans to take the top ten entries in the 2020 Jamaica Festival Song Competition to the world. The songs will be available for download and streaming on all music platforms as of Friday, July 3rd, 2020, courtesy of VPal Music.
The finalists in the 2020 Jamaica Festival Song Competition include Reggae icons Freddie McGregor, Toots & The Maytals and Buju Banton; popular artistes Papa Michigan, Nazzle Man, L.U.S.T. (Lukie D, Thriller U, Singing Melody & Tony Curtis); Rising Stars winner Shuga; upcoming dancehall artistes Xtra Bigg and Radix OD, as well as the actress and television presenter, Sakina.
The move to make the Jamaica Festival Song entries available on music downloading and streaming services is a part of Minister Grange’s initiative to revitalize Jamaica Festival. In keeping with restrictions on public gatherings because of the covid-19 pandemic, the usual island-wide road shows and public performances by the Festival Song finalists will not be held this year. Instead, the Ministry has engaged national radio and television stations and has been using social media to bring the finalists and their entries to the public.
The winning Jamaica Festival Song for 2020 will be decided on July 26 by popular vote.
