Rastahari Releases New Instrumental Dub Album “Dub Is My Superpower” (Album Review)

Rastahari, the Tempe, Arizona–based musician known for his work as a keyboardist with reggae great Frankie Paul during the 1990s, has returned with a refreshing new project. His latest release, “Dub Is My Superpower,” is an eight-track instrumental album crafted for listeners seeking pure relaxation and meditation. Whether enjoyed alone in a reflective moment or while spending time with loved ones, the project captures the calming essence of classic dub.

Drawing inspiration from legendary pioneers such as King Tubby, The Upsetters, and Peter Chemist, Rastahari fully embraces the roots of Jamaican dub while adding his own creative signature. He produced, mixed, and mastered the entire collection himself. The album also includes notable contributions—Ryan Lake played guitar on “Bulldoze Down Babylon,” John (Jah-n) Landau added guitar on “The United States of Dub,” and Sam Greene is credited for the drums, trumpet, guitar, and effects on “Black Tie Dub.”

The album’s title stems from a symbolic connection within the reggae community. “Reggae uses the Lion of Judah as a prominent reggae symbol. I picture the Lion of Judah as somewhat of a majestic reggae superhero,” Rastahari shared. “Superheroes have superpowers, so I went with ‘Dub Is My Superpower!’ since it kinda is…”

After a full year of careful development, Rastahari has delivered a polished and thoughtfully curated gift to the dub genre. Fans of instrumental reggae and traditional dub rhythms will appreciate the artistry and intention behind every track.

“Dub Is My Superpower” is now available across all major streaming platforms.
