Earlier this evening (October 26) Jamaica’s prime minister Andrew Holness announced changes to the covid-19 measures in the House of Representative. See a snippet of his statement below.
“Effective Friday, October 29th, the new curfew hours will be from 8pm nightly to 5am the following morning, for every day in the week. Sundays will no longer be no-movement days. This will remain in effect until 5am on December 10, 2021.”
Earlier today the office of the prime minister of Jamaica announced an updated COVID-19 containment measure relating to the curfew hours. They reminded the nation that on both Sunday, October 17 and Monday, October 18, 2021 the entire island will be under curfew.
Exceptions will be made for persons going out to get vaccinated as well as all essential workers. The curfew will end on Tuesday morning at 5am. The notice was sent out because Monday, October 18 is National Heroes’ Day.
A lot of people were surprised to learn that one of Jamaica’s beloved radio personality, Elise Kelly, who left Irie FM after 29 years in 2020, is now back on the FM dial.
She launched her new show, Un-Tengle, on The Bridge 99FM at the beginning of October. The program can be heard on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM to 1PM (local time).
Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding has joined the team at Jamaica’s newest radio station, The Bridge 99FM. His show, Jamaica Live, premiered on-air this past Monday, September 27th between the hours of 11AM and 1PM, and will broadcast weekly at the same time.
Jamaica Live will see Mr. Golding engaging local and international guests and discussing topical issues affecting the nation, the region and the world at large.
Comedian Dave Chappelle has finally gotten the go-ahead to begin construction on what he says will be a comedy club and restaurant in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Chappelle has said that he wants to create a place where he and his friends can showcase their talents and be all they were created to be.
It is now being reported that the restaurant will be named Firehouse Eatery, while the comedy show will be called Live From YS. More information to follow.

Effective from Saturday, September 18, the curfew hours will be as follows:
Former Minister of Education, attorney at law and radio broadcaster Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Thwaites will return to prime time radio, as host of the ‘Public Eye’ that will simulcast starting Wednesday, September 15th on The Bridge 99FM in Jamaica (11am-1pm) and Irie Jam radio, WVIP, 93.5FM (noon – 2pm) in the tri-state area.
Mr. Thwaites has been an important voice in the community for over 50 years and he promises to have a different approach than the status quo when he sits behind The Bridge’s megaphone.
The former Minister of Education comes to the table with vast experience in media. He began his journalism career in 1966 and hosted his very first radio talk show in 1976. As an attorney, he established the Jamaica Legal Aid Clinic in 1972 and has provided legal representation for thousands of Jamaicans at home and in the Diaspora. Minister Thwaites has been credited with the establishment of the Jamaica Legal Aid Clinic in 1972. He was also the clinic’s Managing Director.
