Jennifer Hudson Adds TV Host To Her Already Impressive Résumé (@IAMJHUD)

On Monday, September 12th The Jennifer Hudson Show will debut on Fox TV, as well as on channels owned by Hearst Television, Sinclair Broadcast Group, TEGNA, Nexstar Media Group, and other networks.

The actress and singer promises to take the program beyond celebrity guests and musical performances; choosing instead to shine a light on everyday heroes. Although The Jennifer Hudson Show is not a replacement for Ellen (DeGeneres), it is worth noting that it will be filmed on Ellen’s old set by many of the same staffers.

Sunni Patterson’s Book Launch Is This Weekend

Beloved poet and lyricist Sunni Patterson will be doing a reading and signing in support of her new book, We Know This Place, on Saturday, August 13.

Although the event is being presented by the local Community Book Center, in the interest of space, it will actually be held at the André Cailloux Center For The Performing Arts & Cultural Justice at 2541 Bayou Road (New Orleans, Louisiana) from 3pm.

Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event. However, if you are unable to attend, you can also purchase it on Amazon.

Laugh With Johnny & Fancy Cat On Mother’s Day

Jabari Production presents a comedy show called To Mom With Laughter on Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 8 – at Premier Restaurant and Lounge (6924 Main Street) in Lithonia, Georgia.

Top-tier Jamaican comedians Johnny, from Lime Tree Lane and Fancy Cat from the popular TV show Ity and Fancy Cat will be doing sets, along with Lemon, Serena Watkins and Janet Dollar. Host for the evening is radio personality Pretty Boy Floyd.

Oliver Samuels Is “Guilty With Explanation”

Jamaica’s king of comedy, Oliver Samuels, will be heading to Canada for back to back shows on Mother’s Day weekend. Samuels along with Lakeisha Ellison and Tesfa Edwards will star in the play Guilty With Explanation.

The team will be at L’Agora De Norte Place School (1780 Meadowvale Blvd.) in Mississauga, Ontario on May 6th at 8pm; and at The Metropolitan Centre (3840 Finch Ave. East) in Toronto on both the 7th and 8th.

Jamaica Ends Mask Mandate & Travel Pre-Testing

Effective April 15th, persons traveling to Jamaica will no longer be required to present a negative covid-19 test prior to travel.

Additionally, the Jamaican government has announced an end to mask mandate in enclosed public spaces as of April 15th.

Kudos To Questlove On His Oscar Win! (@questlove)

Despite all the hoopla surrounding the Oscars on the weekend, there was a very good moment for black music that persons within the culture should not miss and/or forget. That’s the moment when Questlove‘s Summer of Soul won in the Documentary Feature category.

Questlove directed the 2021 Summer of Soul documentary, which was about the legendary 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival that celebrated African-American music and culture and promoted black pride and unity. Congrats Quest!

Join Black Thought & Ta-Nehisi Coates For A Conversation At The Apollo

The Apollo Theater will come alive on March 30th as two prominent public figures from the black community will be on stage. This is not a music event however, it is a conversation between author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates and legendary hip-hop MC Black Thought (a member of The Roots crew).

The men will be discussing their work, what has inspired them and the ways in which they are reimagining their artforms for the future. Starting time is 7pm. Click here for tickets.
