Starting Wednesday, April 22nd, the entire island of Jamaica will be under new and strict curfew hours. The newly announced curfew will be from 6 AM to 6 PM, which means that no one will be allowed on the road between the hours of 6 in the evening to 6 in the morning. The only exempted persons are licensed public transportation operators, who are able to start their day at 5 AM.

These new orders were put in place because of the rapid spike in the number of corona virus cases in the country. Jamaica now has a total of 223 confirmed COVID19 persons; with a total of 5 deaths.

Jamaica’s six-hour virtual telethon, held on Sunday, April 12th, which was conceived to raise money to fight covid19 on the island, has generated more than 50 million JMD.

This event saw performances from several of the nation’s biggest artists, as well appearances by many high ranking public figures.

The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports, Ms. Olivia Grange, has announced that the telethon will be rotated to cater to the Asian and European time zones. The hope is to continue to raise funds via the website: jatogetherwestand dot com.

Today – Tuesday, April 14th – Jamaica reported its highest number of confirmed corona virus cases on the island. There are now a total of 105 affected persons, with 32 being added today.

After conducting their investigations the government have concluded that most, if not all the new cases are residents of the St. Catherine community. That being said, the entire Parish will be on lockdown as of 5 AM on Wednesday, April 15th, and the lockdown will be in effect for 7 days.

This weekend – Friday, April 10th to Monday, April 13th – Jamaicans will be under a very tight curfew as the government continues to work at containing the spread of covid19.

At a press conference held earlier this evening, Andrew Holness announced that the new curfew for the weekend is as follows: starting on Friday through Monday it will commence at 3 PM in the afternoon and end at 7 AM the next morning. Anyone caught on the road between 3 PM and 7 AM will be charged and fined.

Trolls World Tour, the 2020 American animated musical film, will be available (at home) on demand this Friday, April 10th.

At a press briefing on Thursday, April 2nd, Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, announced that he will be extending the country’s border closure for an additional 14 days.

The government initially implemented the order on March 24th with the hopes of slowing the spread of the corona virus. Basically what this means is that no incoming passenger (whether by air or sea) is being allowed to enter the island during the aforementioned period.
