Effective Thursday, August 27th, 18 Communities In Kingston Will Go Into Partial Lock-down

Andrew HolnessSee below an official media release from JISJamaica Information Service – regarding the additional restrictions for communities in Kingston.

Effective Thursday (August 27), persons in several Corporate Area communities will be required to remain at home, outside of curfew hours, as the Government puts in stricter measures to control the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

This was announced by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, who said that this stipulation, which will remain in place for the next two weeks, applies to the 18 communities where a clustering of cases has been observed.

It was reported last week that these Corporate Area communities have been seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases with no epidemiological link, which have a high risk of transmission, and are now being monitored by the health authorities.

They are Duhaney Park, Patrick Gardens, Pembroke Hall, Cooreville Gardens, New Haven, Half-Way Tree, Hughenden, Arlene Gardens, Molynes Gardens, State Gardens, Zaidie Gardens, Constant Spring, Barbican, Meadowbrook, Havendale, Delacree Park, Olympic Gardens and Waltham Gardens.

Speaking at a virtual press briefing on Monday (August 24), Mr. Holness explained that the new Order will give authority to the police to request that persons return home if they are seen loitering in a public space or have no reason to be out.

Jamaicans; Don’t Be Distracted By The Dubplates Being Shared By Politicians!

On September 3rd, Jamaicans will go to the polls to elect the government, which is to serve the nation for the next five years. That being said, politicians on both side of the aisle are in full campaign mode. The colors –  green and orange – are out, posters are up all across the island, rallies are being held and dubplates are being played.

Election time in Jamaica has, in some areas, become somewhat of a festive season in recent years. Though we are glad to see that you can now openly declare your choice without worrying about losing your life, we want to remind all Jamaicans that this is a serious decision that should not be taken lightly.

What we here at MJ Magazine are noticing is that politicians are using music and entertainment to distract voters from their record. Politicians in the two major political parties have been sharing dubs by some of the biggest reggae and dancehall artists; and we fear that voters may go to the polls with the best dubplate in mind as oppose to the person’s record.

In closing, our advise is to enjoy the music but vote for the person who has been honestly working for the people.
