The Annual ‘Roots Picnic’ Is Scheduled For June 27th (@theroots)

The 13th annual Roots Picnic will be held online on Saturday, June 27th from 6:00 PM EST (3:00 PM PST).

There will be performances by H.E.R., Lil Baby, D-Nice, Earthgang, Polo G, SZA, Roddy Ricch, G Herbo, Snoh Aalegra, Kirk Franklin and Musiq Soulchild. Additionally, several celebrities will make an appearance, namely: Michelle Obama, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Tom Hanks and many more.

Persons are being asked to RSVP at weall dot vote/rootspicnic, while the event will stream in real-time via yt dot be/music/therootspicnic.

On Friday, June 19th, American pop-star John Legend will release his new album titled “Bigger Love.” This is a sixteen-track (16) project that features five collaborations with the following artists: Gary Clark Jr., Camper, Jhené Aiko, hip-hop MC Rapsody and Jamaican female lyricist Koffee.

“Bigger Love” is on the John Legend Music Inc. and Columbia Records labels. Fans and supporters of the R&B legend are able to preview selected tracks from the album, via iTunes, ahead of the release date.

We are now starting to see the strategic way in which Timbaland and Swizz Beatz are selecting the artists for the Verzuz Song Competition.

When the nation needed healing they called on the two heavyweights in gospel, Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond; and now that we are approaching the date many African Americans were emancipated from slavery, June 19th, they have confirmed Alicia Keys and John Legend.

Karamanti Releases The Official Video For “Eyes Open Up” From Her “Hurt People” Album

A few days ago Karamanti released the official video for “Eyes Open Up,” which is featured on her 2019 album, “Hurt People.”

The visuals were captured in Karamanti‘s city, Kingston 20 (Jamaica), a few weeks before the corona virus pandemic disrupted our daily routines. As this is her favorite song on the album, she insisted on creating a simple video that would not distract from the message in the music. That being said, the video shows her performing the song in a fun, but purposeful and deliberate manner, while clips of onlookers are sporadically placed throughout.

The “Hurt People” album was created to shine light on domestic abuse, child abuse and molestation (at home and in the church), severe despondency and dejection, and above all else, on the importance of reclaiming ones happiness after a traumatic experience. A couple years ago Karamanti went into, and eventually overcame, deep depression. The song “Eyes Open Up” was written around that time and it has since been a source of inspiration for her.
