Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick & Michel’le Will Be “Jammin In The Park” On Saturday

The 8th annual Jammin In The Park concert will take place this Saturday, April 2nd at the Ilene Lieberman Park – 3801 Inverrary Blvd. – in Lauderhill, Florida.

Between the hours of 4pm and 10pm attendees will enjoy live performances from Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick and Michel’le; plus additional music from DJ Big Man Kelly, The Old School Gang and Blade Martin & The Sons of David Band.

This event is free to the public and everyone is invited.

Kudos To Questlove On His Oscar Win! (@questlove)

Despite all the hoopla surrounding the Oscars on the weekend, there was a very good moment for black music that persons within the culture should not miss and/or forget. That’s the moment when Questlove‘s Summer of Soul won in the Documentary Feature category.

Questlove directed the 2021 Summer of Soul documentary, which was about the legendary 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival that celebrated African-American music and culture and promoted black pride and unity. Congrats Quest!

Lyricist Lounge 30th Anniversary Set For Apr. 16 At The Apollo

Here is one for the true lyricists. On Saturday, April 16 the 30th anniversary of Lyricist Lounge will be celebrated at the Apollo Theater in New York.

Kudos to the organisers for ensuring that credible lyrical geniuses are featured. That said, there will be performances by KRS-One, Kid Capri, Bahamadia, Talib Kweli, Grand Puba, Mr. Cheeks and more.

All ticketholders and attendees of this event must provide proof of vaccination in order to enter the theater. 

Join Black Thought & Ta-Nehisi Coates For A Conversation At The Apollo

The Apollo Theater will come alive on March 30th as two prominent public figures from the black community will be on stage. This is not a music event however, it is a conversation between author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates and legendary hip-hop MC Black Thought (a member of The Roots crew).

The men will be discussing their work, what has inspired them and the ways in which they are reimagining their artforms for the future. Starting time is 7pm. Click here for tickets.

Talib Kweli Will Play At Twelve Rivers’ “Soul In The Horn” This Friday

To help celebrate their ten-year business anniversary Twelve Rivers is hosting back-to-back events at the 2022 SXSW in Austin. They have taken over Native Hostel, Bar & Cafe at 807 East 4th Street for the week.

One of their most anticipated events is “Soul In The Horn,” scheduled for Friday at 9pm. “Soul In The Horn” is an industry party that attracts the who is who in entertainment. They all come to see a DJ playing with a full horn section. This year they’ll be treated to the musical skills of Natasha Diggs, Just Blaze, Terry Hunter, Talib Kweli and The Whooligan.

Remy Ma, Trina, Yo Yo & Other Female Emcees Will Join MC Lyte In Celebrating Women In Hip-Hop

Hip-hop legend MC Lyte presents I Am Woman: A Celebration of Women in Hip-Hop. Scheduled for Friday, April 15th, its objective is to uplift the creative contributions of women across generations, while honoring the genius, diversity and power of female emcees.

This will be an incredible evening of sisterhood and celebration at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. with appearances by Da Brat, Trina, Remy Ma, Monie Love, Mumu Fresh, Yo Yo, Mama Sol, Tierra Whack and more.

The event will be complemented by MC Lyte‘s Beats, Brains and Business; a professional development workshop in the Skylight Pavilion earlier in the day.
