Reset 2025
“Jamaica is in a crisis. We all know it, and we have become immune to crime. We have become immune to violence. We have become immune to all that is happening, the murders. We know we are in a crisis when we sit in the buses and the taxis and the music violates every moral code of public sanctity and we see nothing, and we do nothing. We know we are in a crisis when the playlist on our children’s phones are list with expletives and sexually exploitive content, and then we want to charge and punish young boys who believe it is okay to sexually assault a young girl. Children live what they learn.”
The preceding is a statement made by Annoleah Wynter, the woman behind Reset 2025. Not only will this event—which is to take place on January 4th at Manchester High School in Mandeville—provide an opportunity for attendees to give their life to Christ and start the year on a new path, but it will also honor 3 gospel pioneers: Dr. Lester Lewis, Shirley Willis, and Minister Sandra Brooks. Evvie McKinney’s Story
Singer Evvie McKinney first found a national audience as a contestant on the TV singing competition The Four: Battle for Stardom. She won the inaugural season in 2018.
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, she started singing as a preschooler and learned gospel music from her father, a gospel and blues singer. McKinney was already performing professionally across several genres when, as a 20-year-old, she joined the Fox series The Four.
Entering as a challenger on the fifth of six episodes in the first season, she performed for a panel of judges that included Sean Combs, DJ Khaled, Meghan Trainor, and Republic Records president Charlie Walk.
McKinney won a record contract with the label when she was crowned champion in February 2018, having delivered powerful, nuanced versions of songs made famous by the likes of Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Andra Day, as well as the Oscar-winning song “Glory” by Common and John Legend.
She subsequently released an EP, This Is Evvie McKinney, in 2019, followed by her debut album, Love, Evvie McKinney, in 2022. Now in 2024 Evvie is mesmerizing audiences with her unbelievable vocals. She has been one of the more captivating performers at Tommee Profitt‘s “The Birth of a King: Live in Concert” series.
