Soné Drops Powerful New Song & Visuals (@_Soneofficial)

00 Soneofficial

Soné, who is arguably one of the most underrated artist in the Jamaican dancehall gospel industry, is back with a powerful message that addresses the times we are living in! Armed with a mandate from God, the young Minister wants everyone to know that though we are tackling several challenges (racial injustice, covid-19 etc.) we will “Overcome.”

That being said, his brand new single titled “Overcome,” which goes live on all music platforms today (August 14), encourages listeners to stand strong, fight and never surrender. The record is a mix of two popular genres: Caribbean-pop and Afro-beat.

Overcome” was written by Soné in March of this year and was recorded at his very own Soné Music Cave studio. The Afro-beat sounds, which are very audible in the song, are courtesy of the producer, Samoto, who is a native of Tanzania, Africa.

When asked what’s the inspiration behind the record, Soné said the following: “This song was inspired by Sam Cook’s song ‘Change’ released in 1964. The concept is that some of the same issues they were struggling with back then, are the same things we are faced with today. The message from Sam Cook was ‘Change’ which is what the leaders of the day like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were preaching. Today our challenge is the same but our message has a stronger foundation because of what the leaders of that time did. They stood up for what was right and because of their sacrifices we can sing loudly and boldly with a different kind of confidence that we shall ‘Overcome’. The song is an anthem for all those who seek justice, equality and changes in our world. It is a confident cry, filled with hope and the strength of those who came before us. Overcome is the anthem of those who believe.”

The song is accompanied by some visuals that were captured during the peak of the Black Lives Matter protests.
