Years ago, in an effort to create an uncomplicated dancehall rhythm, Sly Dunbar and his musical partner Robbie Shakespeare re-examined the formula that was crucial to their earlier success. After careful examination, they ended up building a beat that was later released as a 13-track compilation called “Zoom Dancehall.”
“Zoom Dancehall” went live on streaming platforms in late October of 2024 via Taxi Records and One Pop Music. It features Hopeton Lindo, Ambelique, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Hawkeye, Bryan Art, Seprano Silver, El Jamaiquino, Shayy Soprano, and Anthony Red Rose. Even though all the songs are great, one is becoming a favorite among reggae-dancehall DJs; that’s Hopeton Lindo‘s “Mi Selecta.”
“Mi Selecta” is literally a universal dubplate that can be used by any sound system or DJ whilst in the midst of a clash or during a regular juggling session. Hopeton Lindo drives the point home by shooting part of the music video at Stone Love‘s headquarters during one of their world-famous dancehall parties.
Because the visual preceded the release of the compilation, and with so many things happening in the industry, many people may have missed it, so Hopeton Lindo and his team are resharing the official video for “Mi Selecta.” The video can be viewed on Sly & Robbie‘s official YouTube channel, and the audio is available on all streaming platforms.
