Belizean recording artist Mesha Steele has been invited to perform at this year’s Embassy of Belize Independence Day Celebration on Friday, September 20. This is an invitation-only event that will be held in the Hall of the Americas in Washington, D.C. Although she is constantly on the road doing back-to-back shows, Mesha considers the forthcoming affair extra special because it’s an opportunity to perform for her native country, Belize.
Steele was born in Belize into a family of singers, musicians, and fashion designers. Her music career officially began when she, along with her two older sisters, formed a group known as the (McGregor) M GIRLZ. The ensemble became the toast of her homeland and was voted the best vocal group in the country. Mesha eventually went solo after her sisters decided to step away from music to take on more traditional roles.
The Embassy of Belize Independence Day Celebration is being presented by the Organization of American States. In addition to the live performances, there will also be speeches and presentations, all aimed at highlighting and honoring Belizean people, culture, and lifestyle.
