Canadian-born singer and songwriter Tonya P has once again blessed us with a gem. On Friday, August 9th, she, along with her team at Starliners Entertainment, released a powerful new single called Rise.
Although done on a rhythm, Rise is really a three-minute and twenty-nine-second motivational speech. The inspirational reggae song is very personal to Tonya P, who, in the following statement, explains what she was going through when she wrote it:
“I was feeling really down at the time, and I wasn’t the only one. It seemed like everyone around me including myself were facing some very difficult challenges spiritually and even financially and then what really topped it off was the loss of some very significant people in my life. It made me want to either give up or push back. I chose to rise and appreciate my life as much as I possibly can.”
Industry insiders familiar with her musical journey are very optimistic about this record. This is because, aside from its strong message, Rise was produced by Radford ‘Dr Rad’ Ettienne, the man who is also responsible for Tonya‘s very first hit song, With Me, shared in 2005. The only other musician who contributed to the making of Rise was guitarist Kelly Andrews.
When asked what she would like listeners to take away from this record, Tonya P said: “I want listeners to know that although life can be hard and sometimes very difficult it is also a precious gift. Once there is life there is hope. Sometimes when you think you’ve reached your lowest that’s when everything can turn around for you all you have to do is keep going, keep trying and never give up.”
Rise can be streamed and downloaded from iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Pandora, etc. It is on the Starliners Entertainment record label.
