Jamaica’s Beloved Little Hero Is Singing For The “World Right Now”

Jamaica’s reggae-dancehall industry, although strong and influential, is filled with persons with questionable character. This includes those in the background, as well as performers and players of instruments standing on center stage. The sad reality is that a lot of our artists have been involved in some form of scandal at some point in their career.

One artist that’s managed to keep hands and heart clean to date is Little Hero. The St. Ann singer, who emerged on the scene in the early 90s, has been able to avoid a lot of the pitfalls in the entertainment industry. He’s had several number-one songs over the years and yet he remains humble and continues to give us ‘big tunes’.

His latest ‘big tune’ is World Right Now: an inspirational dancehall track produced by Sheldon and Leroy Edwards for Pandemic Records. In it, Hero laments on the current state of mankind, highlighting the fact that many have chosen to take the road frequently travelled. One filled with crime, violence, envy and outright wickedness.

The strength of World Right Now was confirmed by Jamaica’s award-winning film writer, director and producer, Dr. Empress Rose Green, who used the song in a short film centered around Africa Day 2022. She chose it because, according to her: “it summarizes the Africa Day film and message in its entirety.”

Jungle Lava Productions Steps On The Scene With “Natty Dreadlocks Survival Riddim”

After years of working in the background as a professional guitar player, Aston Hewitt, known publicly as Jungle George – the cousin of legendary guitarist Ernie Ranglin and fallen soldier Garnett Silk – is ready to take center stage.

Under his own imprint, Jungle Lava Productions, he is releasing his very first full-length roots reggae compilation: Natty Dreadlocks Survival Riddim. The seven track project features History Man, Empress Radiance, Michelle Irie, Vineyard, Jungle George and Karamanti: who incidentally was the persuasive voice that encouraged George to do the EP.

Songs on the Natty Dreadlocks Survival Riddim vary in subject matter, but all are common in their rich melodious sound. And being the nephew of Corel and Lascells Hewitt – established guitarists who have played for Burning SpearMighty Diamonds and other reggae giants – the quality of the production was most important to Jungle George.

He played all the instruments himself, with a little help from his son Sean Hewitt on guitar. All songs were mixed and mastered by Brian ‘Zion’ Sinclair and Aston ‘Jungle George’ Hewitt at Jungle Lava Productions Studio in Kingston Jamaica; and it is being distributed by VPal Music – a subsidiary of VP Records.

Richie Stephens Offers Advice To Anyone Under A Malison “Reverse The Curse”

Jamaican singer, songwriter and producer Richie Stephens – who hails from the parish of  Westmoreland – has just released another inspirational record titled Reverse the Curse. According to Stephens, he penned the song after observing how mean-spirited and grudgeful some people behave, especially towards someone who is succeeding in his or her pursuit.

The production of Reverse the Curse is a collaborative effort between Richie Stephens and his longtime friend and colleague Richard Davidson (CEO and owner of BoomRich Productions). Prior to the release of this record the men have jointly shared two other singles: Valley and Stay Positive. Their objective is to publish a full length studio album at the end of August.

The vocals and instruments for Reverse the Curse were recorded at Richie Stephens‘ Pot of Gold Studio. Musicians that worked on rhythm are: Courtney Panton (bass-guitar), Dave Green (drums), Robert Browne (guitar) and Othniel Lewis (piano); with recording and mixing engineer Marvin Jackson.

When asked if the words in the song were inspired by personal events, Stephens said: “This song is for everyone and also personal…It is the sound track of my life with all the challenges I faced over the years especially in music. People can relate to the lyrical content based on the realness of the song. Every living person go through these things at some point in life.” He went on to say: “I would like people to understand that God is still alive and we should keep the faith in him especially in these troubled times…Ask Father God to Reverse the curse and send it back to sender…”
