Gen’ral Joins Maria Jackson Radio (@misterdj247)

Gen’ral began selecting music for his mom’s house parties at the age of 10, and ever since he has always wanted to be the one playing the tunes rather than being in the listening audience.

Reggae became the music that would dominate his life after the release of the Bob Marley‘s Exodus album when he was 12 years old. Too young to get into dances, he realized if he became a box boy he could get entry to a dance before the gateman was set up. From being a box boy, after studying and imitating the mic men around the sound, he soon forged a career as a MC with a reputation for chatting reality lyrics with a wicked sense of humor, a humor that still permeates his radio presenting.

He went on to build his own sound system with some friends, Music Incorporated, and that relationship would continue for 28 years. When pirate radio in the UK became prevalent, Gen’ral had his first taste of radio presenting on Jive FM, and fast became one of the most popular presenters on the station. He has now joined Maria Jackson Radio and will be presenting on on Sundays and Mondays from 5 to 7PM EST. The Sunday show is a mix of old and new music: lovers rock, revival and easy listening Reggae (smooth groove); whereas on Mondays it’s all about new music.

Equally adept performing live or on the radio, Gen’ral is truly humble about the secret of his success – “I just play music that I like to hear myself and I don’t follow a hype, if the tune sounds good, it doesn’t matter who sings it, I will play it. My job is purely as a vessel for the truly talented singers, songwriters, producers and players of instruments to get their music across to the world.”

Bilingual Reggae Singer Dahlia Anderson To Release New Album In The Fall

Much like others in the music industry, Canadian based bilingual reggae singer Dahlia Anderson, has encountered tremendous setbacks because of the covid-19 pandemic. Prior to all the shutdowns and restrictions the artist had released a couple of singles: In My Mind and Infatuation, and was beginning to get some traction on both. As things are finally beginning to re-open and everyone is trying to get back to some sense of normalcy, Dahlia and her team are now resuming their work. At this moment the singer is focused on a new album that she hopes to have ready for the public in the Fall of this year. She has said that the new project will be a fusion of pop and lover’s-rock and that it will have a surprise feature.

Additionally, she is still promoting her latest video, In My Mind, which was officially released in mid December. The visuals were directed by Yvette Martin and it was shot in Niagara Falls, Canada.

More & More Artists Are Speaking Out About What Is Happening In The U.S. (@EgDaGovenaw)

A few days ago it was reported that another black man was murdered by police in the United Sates. Sadly, this killing took place in 2019, but it was swept under the rug and none of the officers were held accountable.

The continual revelation of these types of homicide at the hands of law enforcement have been disturbing to everyone; artists and public figures alike.

These news have been so troubling that they’ve even gotten several entertainers, not known for their stance on social issues, to use their platforms and voices to raise awareness about them.

Some of the artists that have surprised their fans by aggressively addressing these matters are Grenadian soca singer Mr. Killa, Jamaican dancehall deejay Bounty Killer and many more; even Guyanese recording artist E.G. DaGovenaw has done a song affirming his alliance with the protesters.

In fact, in a new one on one interview with Maria Jackson MagazineE.G. gave us an insight into how Black Americans may be feeling about all that is happening, being in such close proximity to it. He also detailed the story behind his hit song Stand With The Protesters.

Antigua & Barbuda’s Reggae Ambassador, Causion, has been diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. The diagnosis came in November, 2020, after he was rushed to the emergency in South Beach, Florida.

Born Gregory Bailey in the twin island state of Antigua & Barbuda, the reggae artist has had a stellar musical career spanning more than 30 years. At the beginning of his musical journey his early hit songs included CrossroadsDifferent WorldAll About Love and All Night Long. He has performed on major music festivals such as Reggae Sumfest, and had recently wrapped up touring with reggae giants Third World. In 1999 his “Total Togetherness Tour” in Antigua & Barbuda cemented his title as the twin island’s official Reggae Ambassador.

Causion, who is based in the United States, now has four albums. He has headlined concerts to benefit the less fortunate and has participated in events to raise funds for cancer.  He lost both his parents to the disease. This time he is reaching out to his friends, fans and colleagues for financial assistance as he begins his long road to treatment and recovery.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be in this position,” said Causion“I think my current situation is a wakeup call for other artists. I’m hoping that my going public, will encourage other artists to get regular checkups. In our business we spend a lot of time focusing on the art form and not ourselves.”

The reggae artist is also a songwriter, who throughout his career has used his lyrics to uplift and educate others. His latest single, titled Thank You, is his way for saying thanks to his fans for the support they have shown him over the years.
