Janet Jackson celebrated her 49th birthday last month by revealing some exciting news. She tweeted a video promising fans “new music, new world tour, a new movement.” Rumors about a comeback surfaced after an uncredited photo hinting at upcoming releases via Atlantic Records hit the Internet. But as quickly as they came, they passed as a rep for the label denied she’d be releasing an album through them. Fans were left confused. What gives Janet?
Well, it turns it they weren’t lying…and neither was she. Janet Jackson officially confirmed news that her first album in seven years will release this fall, but via BMG and under her newly-formed label Rhythm Nation.
Jamaican singer Tessanne Chin has long had an affinity for retro sounds — after all, her breakout performance on season five of The Voice (which she eventually won) was a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
Jill Scott, the sister that touches us to our core with her music has dropped another bombshell! Today, Jill Scott also announced tour dates for summer 2015. The 25 -date tour kicks off July 13 in Pittsburgh, PA. Approximately one hour ago, Ms. Lauryn Hill announced, via her facebook page, that she will be cancelling her upcoming show in Israel. The artist who has always stood for unity and brotherly love gave the following explanation:
“Dear Friends and Fans in Israel,
When deciding to play the region, my intention was to perform in both Tel Aviv and Ramallah. Setting up a performance in the Palestinian Territory, at the same time as our show in Israel, proved to be a challenge. I’ve wanted very much to bring our live performance to this part of the world, but also to be a presence supporting justice and peace. It is very important to me that my presence or message not be misconstrued, or a source of alienation to either my Israeli or my Palestinian fans. For this reason, we have decided to cancel the upcoming performance in Israel, and seek a different strategy to bring my music to ALL of my fans in the region. May healing, equanimity, and the openness necessary for lasting resolution and reconciliation come to this region and its people.
Swedish Reggae singer Etzia who has done collaborations with Charly Black, Future Fambo, Lutan Fyah and Collie Buddz recently partnered with Partillo Production on her latest EP entitled ‘Chapter Done.’ Both individuals have worked ceaselessly to create a unique sound that many are saying is a whole new genre. It is a collection of tropical vibrations mixed in with some Nordic elements. To hardcore Reggae fans it is reminiscent of dub, roots and house all in one. They are calling this new sound Traphall.
Persons familiar with Traphall says it is properly defined as a music which consists of reggae, dancehall, hip hop and electro. When asked why they have decided to focus on this genre for ‘Chapter Done’, Partillo says “this type of original sound is needed to satisfy Etzia’s vocal expression”.
