Unfortunately, a member of the MJE team has been left homeless in Houston. Popular radio and TV host, DJ Solo, the man who has been giving us “The Island Grove Show” for years, was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Both he and his family (wife and kids) have lost their home and all their belongings.

That being said, we are asking members of the public to contribute whatever they can to assist them as they try to get back on their feet. We will have Solo take pictures and/or do video snippets indicating that he has indeed received the money from us.

Congratulations to this year’s Scholarship awardees Shekinah Scott, who will be attending Belmont High School and Devaun Brown, who will be attending Manchester High School in Jamaica for the up-coming 2017-2018 school year.

The scholarship follows them through their five years of High School. Each student will receive $30,000JA each school year to assist with educational costs. The PRYDE Foundation is on a mission to work within various communities by assisting the next generation of young people to achieve their life goals. They will provide mentorship, financial assistance and training to those who are willing to be the best they can be.

Calabar Old Boys Association, popularly known as Sons of Rabalac, will be hosting their Green & Black party in Jamaica on April 1st. The event will be held at Susie’s (1 Southdale Plaze, 10 Constant Spring Road in Kingston).

Entertainment – music – will be provided by the world immortal sound; Stone Love, alongside DJ Smurf and Coppershot. Proceeds from this event will go to various soccer and educational programs at Calabar High School.

JAMMS is about to enter another important phase in its growth as a rights management organization.

They have been managing the rights of Record Producers for the past 10 years; however, they are now about to cover a wider range of rights-owners.

In a short while, JAMMS will begin managing the rights of Performers alongside their current management of Record Producers Rights. Performers as used here means Artists and Musicians.

They know that that there are some persons who may wear more than one cap where music is concerned and so for example there may be Record Producers who are also Performers. This means very soon JAMMS will be able to cover that individual as both a Producer and Performer.

It is necessary to point out however that some persons roles may or may not extend into other areas of music, for example, a Record Producer may also be a Composer or an Artist may also be a Songwriter.

JAMMS however WILL NOT be managing rights for ALL these various different rights-owners. The law does not allow a Collecting Society to manage rights which another Collecting Society is established to manage.

To be very clear, by JAMMS now taking on the management of Artists and Musicians Rights, it WILL NOT affect the rights managed by JACAP.

JACAP manages the rights of Songwriters, Composers and Publishers. Under the copyright laws these are different rights-owners from Artists and Musicians. In other words, persons who wear the cap of Artists and Musicians will come to JAMMS for representation while persons who wear the cap of Songwriters and Composers will continue to go to JACAP for representation. Hapilos Entertainment Group announces that Nicole Duhaney better known as Nikki Z, will assume the duties of Vice President of Client Projects and Content effective immediately. Her role, according to the company’s president, will entail securing clients and projects, on hand interaction with clients regarding projects and content, market and promotion.
