DSCN1866Described as the LEXICON of Reggae and Dance Hall Music, when it comes to writing lyrics, this gifted lyrical genius, with a superb and unique style combined with a powerful delivery that made his music stood up to the harshest of critics, Cleve “Lt. Stitchie” Laing, has been transformed from being one of dancehall’s most acclaimed icon into the Ambassador for Christ and his amazing abilities only get better by the minute.

Conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree, ordained as a Minister of the Truth, a Psalmist and a born-again Kingdom Citizen whose huge catalog and repertoire is totally dedicated to the manifestation of his new assignment, the Governor, like the great Reggae Ambassadors before him and the great characters of the bible, pursues his mandate with even a greater passion and unrelenting devotion, than in the days when he became king of the dancehall on Stereo One sound system as Lt. Stitchie, The Governor.

The former high school teacher of Physical Education and Biology who graduated from G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport was destined to teach valuable lessons in the school of life. Though no longer functions in the formal setting of a High School, Lt. Stitchie has expanded his student population to include the globe and his serious messages of love through his music and literary skills from his Government’s manifesto has gone viral to include his personal appearances on the Continents of North America, South America, Asia, Europe and Africa, with Australia and Antartica yet to come.

His transformation was the culmination of two years spent in quiet reflection on his purpose in life and contemplating eternity, shortly after the death of his beloved mother.

It was following on a near-death car crash on the way to perform at Reggae Sumfest in August 1997 and the receipt of a Gideon New Testament Bible from a Canadian Missionary the very night that Lt. Stitchie, on returning to his hotel, read the Bible, prayed, asked for forgiveness of his sins and accepted JESHUA HAMACHIACH as his King and Saviour.

Now comfortably preaching the message of the Kingdom and teaching about the King, Lt. Stitchie since his watery baptism on December 14, 1997, has witnessed the mighty power of YAHWEH in his career and in every other area of his life and has seen his boundaries enlargened. Divinely inspired by JAH and motivated by his zeal and innate determination to excel, Lt. Stitchie has once again demonstrated his versatility and creativity as an Author.

Since his rise to fame in the late 1980’s, he has been touring extensively as a headliner at various Reggae Music Festivals and Concerts globally and this only intensified when he made the transition to a new life.

Although not one to revel in awards and take any praise unto himself, nevertheless, the excellence of this living Reggae and Dance Hall Legend, Reggae icon and Ambassador for Christ has been recognized nationally and internationally since the release of his very first Album, “Wear Yu Size”, by various awarding bodies too numerous to start naming.

Easily and undoubtedly one of the most sort after Artiste in the genre of reggae and dancehall. The requests for Reggae Music Festivals, Gospel Music Festivals and Concerts from the church halls to the dance halls are even at a much higher volume now than ever before. Lt. Stitchie has a reputation for being an explosive, electrifying and high energy performer, who continues this high voltage trend of upward mobility of excellence, with each Album he releases and each time he makes an appearance in front of an audience on stage. Lt. Stitchie is credited as an eloquent and didactic speaker, simultaneously, an avid student of the WORD. Consequently, his requests for speaking engagements, from motivational to guest speaker, are in very high demand. His excellent stage craft combined with an effective Kingdom message has earned thousands of renewed lives for the Kingdom.

Lt. Stitchie proclaim that one of the main concerns is to walk according to the principles of the Kingdom that will be an example to others, especially his former neighbors in the garrison of the inner city communities where he grew up, to his fellow dancehall colleagues and whomever he encounters on his journey of life.

This trendsetter, who is credited in the analogs of history of Reggae Music in Germany, as the first to bring dancehall music to Germany and Europe as a whole, who is inscribed on the pages of the Guinness Book of Records of who`s who in Reggae Music, who is inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame in New York and was awarded an Iconic Award by The Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JARIA) for his outstanding continuous contribution to the development of Reggae Music globally, continues to set a blistering pace and has raised the bar in Reggae/Dancehall Gospel Music a thousand feet higher, simultaneously, reinforcing in Reggae and Dancehall Music, as a whole, why there is only one “Lt. Stitchie, THE GOVERNOR” with each Single and Album he releases.

Lt. Stitchie has also pioneered a completely new path in the history of Reggae Music, by becoming the first Reggae Artiste to write and publish a Book entitled, “The Power Of Determination”, his Autobiography, which can be downloaded along with his complete anthology from digital stores globally.

Getting To Know Jamaican Dancer; Camoy Romaine Stafford

1623560_757628270949681_1619709318468560279_nCamoy Romaine Stafford was born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s in Jamaica, dancehall was a very prevalent part of the culture and it influenced Camoy from his childhood. He was always interested in dance, but got serious about it in the 9th grade. He would dance whenever he got the opportunity. Learning and creating dancehall steps, and also dancing with friends and choreographing routines. In this case he was a local street dancer, which is a huge part of Dancehall culture. His biggest influence from other street Dancehall dancers came from Andre “Cosmic” Elite, from the Elite Team in Kingston, Jamaica. Camoy saw Cosmic as unique and noticed how his moves were aggressive yet flow with the music effortlessly. Camoy also became very influenced by the hip hop dance style called popping, specifically by one specific dancer Marquese Scott. The influence Camoy received from Scott’s passion made him aware of the technique of animation within dance. Camoy worked hard on that technique, and it is now one of his biggest attributes in his personal dance style. He dances with strength, precision, and fluidity. Once he became aware of this he began recording videos of himself free-styling and uploading them on YouTube.

IMG-20150301-WA0007From 2014 to present day, Camoy has been a member of the performance group Mahogany Entertainment Network, directed by Brent Maxwell. They perform all over Jamaica for tourists, hotels, and special events. Styles include Jazz, African, modern, contemporary, traditional folk, and dancehall. The group has been recognized as the Most Outstanding Traditional Folk Group for more than 5 years straight and the Most Outstanding Dance Group in Western Jamaica for over 15 years. Apart from Mahogany Entertainment Network, Camoy has formed his own dance team in Montego Bay called the New Era Team. They have competed in Jamaican dance competitions like Dancing Dynamite, Tastee Talent Trail and JCDC. Camoy has also created his own dancehall steps under his New Era Team name, and dancehall lovers and dancers from all over the world (Sweden, South America, USA, and Germany to name a few) have endorsed his steps and incorporated them into their own routines and dance classes. The most popular steps he created are Shorta Breath, Snapshot, Pinch, Check and etc. Each step has a video on his YouTube channel, New Era, which anyone can watch and learn.

Camoy is so passionate about dance and it can be seen by everyone who he crosses paths with. His willingness and openness to teach and dance with anyone from any walk of life is an attribute that sets him apart from many. He is not driven by money, but driven by inspiration. He believes everyone has a story to tell and dance is an outlet for those who don’t otherwise have any other outlet. Camoy’s future plans are first to travel and dance in other parts of the world, and come back to Jamaica and open a dance studio in Montego Bay, creating a dancing hub and space on the Western side of the island the way Dance JA and Dance Xpressionz has done in Kingston.

DONNA BURNETT aka LADY DONNA biography (@LaDona6 @OsujahRecords)

Microsoft Word - DONNA BURNETT aka LADY DONNA biographyDonna Burnett is a dub poet, writer, record producer, registered nurse, CEO and founder of Osujah Records and Charity Outreach Program.

Born at the historical Jubilee hospital in Kingston, Donna is the only child for her mother Rosamund Sayles. She grew up in Jones Town, bordered by Trench Town, Admiral Town, and Hannah Town in Kingston 12. Donna lived in other areas in Kingston like Harbor View, Patrick City, Portmore in St Catherine, but she always returned to her roots in Jones Town where her great grandmother, Aunt B resided. Donna was captivated by music at a very early age and was inspired by the musical talents of Aunt B, who played the accordion or flutena as she called it, when she sang and danced. Donna shared aunt B’s passion for music as well as her compassion for those who suffered. Together they ministered to the needy, sick, and hungry in the community, which included people as well as animals. Aunt B adopted a sickly infant “AJ” born to a mentally ill and homeless woman. AJ was the closest Donna came to having a brother. Mrs. Ivy, Donna’s grandmother, played the piano and sang soprano in the church choir. Her uncle owned a sound system “Touch of Class.”  Surrounded by adults, in a strict environment, Donna was often lonely and listened to music, wrote lyrics, poetry, sang, DJ’d and read extensively. English was her best subject.

Donna Burnett attended Queen’s High School, in St Andrew, and worked at the Ministry of Education at National Heroes Circle upon graduation. An avid fan of Bob Marley, she was deeply saddened by his death in 1981, and attended his viewing at the National Arena in Jamaica, where she paid her last respects to the Jamaican Icon. Donna was impressed with the Rastafarian movement at the time but never wore dreads or considered Haile Selassie as God. Donna was a firm believer in the Christian religion; however, she was more of an opinionated radical. In 1985, shortly after the birth of her first child, Donna migrated to the United States. She served in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and Pharmacy Technician for 11 years. She obtained a BS degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where she also pursued classes in music, poetry and writing. Donna also works as a Registered Nurse.

Determined to finance her own Record Company, due to unequal opportunity for women in the Music Industry, Donna opened her first studio at her home in Beverly, St Ann, which she later moved to Main St. Priory, St Ann. She chose St. Ann because it was the birth place of her great grandmother, as well as that of the legendary leader, and National Hero, The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, another of Donna’s literary mentors. She also loves being close to the ocean.

The name Osujah was inspired through a prophetic vision with the divine revelation of her calling as a Levite, as can be noted in Joshua 21 of The Holy Bible. Joshua has been scrambled to create Osujah. Donna intends to be a driving force to be reckoned with in upcoming years, providing the medium through which voices can be heard and represented, where the lost can be lead, the hungry fed, the needy satisfied, and the broken mend.

Osujah Record’s latest project is a Reggae compilation entitled ‘Vybz In The Sun.’ It features two tracks from Lady Donna, namely; ‘Reject Failure’ and ‘Save A Life’ which features Alpancho. Persons wanting to work with Donna may do so by sending an email to osujah21@yahoo.com

This is the Music Industry not a sport, why are you competing?

0So the music industry has two different images, there is the image that you see when you are on the outside looking in. To many this either looks glamorous or difficult depending on whether or not you are trying to get your foot in the door. Maybe if you are a religious person it may also appear negative and dirty at times. The other image is the one that you see when you are inside the music business and you know a lot of the artists, producers and A&Rs personally and are around them when they speak professionally and socially.

When you are on the inside one thing becomes apparent; that is those who are doing music for the love of music and are not competing for status placement appear to be less stressed and somehow they seem to be loved and appreciated more by the public as oppose to those who get involved in the music industry and focus all their attention and energy on being bigger than others. Artists, Producers, Label Owners, Booking Agents, PRs and other professionals in music that are working in their respective fields because they want to work in that particular field and genuinely enjoy what they do and are not in competition with anyone tend to have a unique likeability about them. Persons seem drawn to them and they seem to get countless opportunities that allows them to continue to soar. More importantly they make decisions about their career from the right place and not a place of wanting to be above anyone. I believe with all my heart that the reason why so many urban music posters, flyers, CD covers etc. all have half naked women on them, and why calling our daughters, mothers and aunties a bitch has become the norm and why the overall lyrical content coming from youths today is not inspiring and uplifting is all because everyone is busy competing with everyone else. No one is making their decisions based on what they truly want to do. They spend all their time watching what others are doing and then tell themselves that they have to outdo them.

Unfortunately the persons involved in the urban music industry (hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, soca, R&B etc.) seem to be in constant competition with one another. It is said that ‘both the dancehall and hip-hop culture strives on competition and so it is necessary in these genres’. I fundamentally disagree with that statement! My position is that if each of us spend our time thinking, planning creating and executing ways to advance our careers then we will not see the need or even have the time to worry about what others are doing thus being unable to see them as competition. As for competing lyrically, I am an avid lover of both hip-hop and dancehall and history has taught me that not a lot of good can come from competing lyrically, yes it may be very entertaining to onlookers but have you ever stop to think about what it’s doing to the person in the competition?

In the interest of time I will close this article by saying that each one of us has unique talents and abilities that was given to us by the Creator therefore the only person we can and should compete with is ourselves. And we do that by challenging ourselves to become better every day.

I sincerely hope that this was useful to you.

WILD AXE Biography (@officialwildaxe)

Jamaican Dancehall Artist Wild Axe Bio & New SingleAs an adolescent growing up in the Waterhouse Community in Kingston, Jamaica, Ryan Bennett was afforded a lot of freedom. His mother migrated to the UK and so he was left in the care of his godmother who did not stop him from attending all the talked about events in his neighborhood. It is because he was constantly going to street parties and socializing that persons began calling him ‘Fyesta Wild Axe’, a name he later shortened to ‘Wild Axe’.

Wild Axe initially had no interest in being a recording artist; the desire to pursue music as a career came by chance when he was asked to assist his friend in the studio by going in the booth and simply checking the mic. From that point on he began writing lyrics and paying attention to other artists whom he looked up to. Some of his biggest musical inspirations are Bounty Killer, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Buju Banton and Beenie Man.

Four years after his mother left Jamaica, he also got the opportunity to do the same and so he joined her in England and began to settle into what would be considered a normal life; this included studying computer IT at Lewisham College. Fortunately, he could not shake his desire for writing and performing music and so in 2010 he began to refocus his energy and once again started to compose songs. He then returned to Jamaica and immediately invested both his time and financial resources into what he now considered his full time occupation. By then he had a manager, Charmain Scott, who encouraged him to record with Smoothface Production, which is based in the UK and both Digitalize Records and Control Tower Squad, which are based in Jamaica. The collaboration with these record companies produced several tracks that helped to create massive awareness for Wild Axe as an artist. He did songs like “Hot Steppa” on the 100 Degree Rhythm compilation which also featured well known acts like Popcaan and Demarco. Once that record was released Wild Axe and his team began to promote the track aggressively as they were getting a lot of positive feedback from his fan base. Other songs that helped to propel him in the limelight are “Money Mi Want” and “Happy Life” which he did a video for. Watch the official video for “Happy Life” here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGPLAdGcXkY

Wild Axe is currently getting ready to release his first EP. It will feature the three previously mentioned songs as well as others, and it will be distributed by 21st Hapilos (one of the most acknowledged distributors in Dancehall).
